Thanks Devildice and no9klein I know you guys are right! And your advice is going to be taken!

Today and yesterday my husband is hanging out in St. Louis Missouri. His parents met up with him down there as they were in Branson so he had a nice visit with them. He will drop this load tomorrow morning then drop in Dallas Tuesday morning.

Live and learn. But then I'm sure you've never made mistakes.

Oh I think this, as well as any diary posted here should be pinned, or somehow kept to where anyone can review it, and take what they learn from it. Some folks around here think these are useless, and it only shows their intellect as a useless human. Keep up the good work (Author) folks like you spend a lot of time with these, and it does benefit others.....whether they want to admit it or not. Just my two cents........

GFIW,

I have been plowing there yours and your husband's post about his driving for MTC and now Davis Transport. I appreciate the time you have taken to share with all of us here.

About me, I drove for Schneider back in mid 90's for a several years. I have been working a factory job for over 10 years now, but I always thinking of my times OTR. Now that my kids are grown up and I live alone, I have been thinking of going back on the road again.

Finding the CAD website and couple other forums on the Internet have been very helpful in my research on how I want to reenter the trucking industry. I had giving thought to getting retrained thru one of the company schools(I still have a current CDL, but no recent experience), but I can see some of the downsides to that. Now, I am thinking about an independent school even thou there will be a little bit longer time between my current job and a trucking company. Time will tell which way I go.

I found it most interesting your husband driving for MTC and Davis Transport, because my driving days gave me memorable events with both companies. Once during the busy Holiday season, I pulled a May trailer out of Sears DC in Delano, CA up to Washington with my pumpkin(Schneider's were more pumpkins back then as all were cabovers, not conventionals like now). I never got so many comments on trip like that one. Truckers were thinking that Schneider had bought May out(I kind of encouraged it  )! The another time, I ran with a Davis driver for a few miles. He was a trainer and spoke very highly of his company. Thou I never met him face to face(it was all CB chatter), I thought he was very pleasant.

Now, that I have read your posts, I going to keep both MTC and Davis on my list of companies that I would consider driving for. I have done the dry van haul, so I would be interested in trying refer or flatbed(Maybe tanker w/ some experience driving again). Yes, I have heard the pluses and minuses here of dry van, refer, flatbed, or tanker. Heck, it reminds me of when I was in the military and the fights that would get started over which branch of service was the best! I always thought we were in it together, so why kill each other.

Anyhow, keep up the post of your husband's journey. I will be looking for it.

danske

Thank you for your input regarding May and Davis! And Welcome to the thread! Let us know if you do get back into trucking. Would it be possible for you to just take a refresher course instead of the complete driving course?

My husband really likes working for Davis, they really seem to care about their drivers!

My husband did get a load after his last one which was only 900 miles! It was his first oversized load. He did not need an escort though but allot of permits and signs and he could only drive daylight hours. He said it was somewhat of a pain. He will get 4 cpm more for that load.

The load he is on now began in North Carolina. This load is a five stop load with 3 stops in Minnesota. Once he drops those he will be headed to Seattle Washington and then our favorite state Eugene Oregon. This trip as far as miles go is approximately 4,100 miles. The shipper yesterday slowed him down and he was unable to drive at all yesterday. He was at the shippers for 9 hours and he was not a happy camper. The company at the other site loaded his load wrong and so they had to redo the entire load that was already on his truck.

My husband may be through here Saturday night  still working on the countertops! My dogs brought home a little critter and I was taking care of it....I lost it today

My husband did not get around for the girls fathers day track and field day at the school  my son was not in school and went with them instead.

And how are things going for you at Sage? Update Please

And while I am on the subjects of updates Feeder when are you due to retire?
