Hey fred thats great that it only took you 5 months at TMC to get that dedicated but i only had 2 weeks at TMC my trainer was an asshole who tried to get me to run an illegal log ,didnt stop for showers and never idled his truck at night no matter how cold it was .I started my new job today i did manuevers now i'm going out with a trainer tomorrow since i'm the only trainee till thursday

 

Reminds me of a story . . .

There was this one Army officer . . . West Point grad . . . what we would call a "water-walker" . . . tall, handsome, well-spoken, brilliant, had all the right connections . . . everybody who met him thought he was the greatest officer they had ever known. Did great his first time in combat. Got promoted quickly. Everyone thought he would run the Army some day.

Then there was this other Army officer . . . also a West Point grad . . . also did well his first time in combat . . . but otherwise, the total opposite. Short, scruffy, nondescript . . . always slightly below average . . . and that was before he became a drunk! One day, he showed up drunk on duty and his commander offered him a choice: Resign your commission or face courts-martial. He resigned and left the Army. He drifted from job to job and was homeless and unable to even feed his family. Eventually, his father created a menial job for him in one of his stores . . . didn't give him very much responsibility because his own father was wary of him . . . but he even screwed that up.

Fast forward four years . . .

Within three years after taking the job from his dad, this second officer (Ulysses S. Grant) had returned to the military, had worked his way up and was the senior general in the U.S. Army. Within one year after taking command, he had decisively defeated and accepted the surrender of the first officer (Robert E. Lee) at Appomatox.

Grant was eventually elected President. He's one of the most beloved heroes in American history. There's even a giant statue of him at the base of the US Capitol, overlooking the city he saved. He's the only general besides George Washington who has been so immortalized.

You can't keep a good man down. It's not the company you work for . . . it's you.

 

That may be, but who knows what would have become of good ole Robert E. Lee had he not hired on with Southern. :lol:

Day one of orientation is completed. No surprises there. Everything after today will be new. I found out today that we are being sent home for the holidays on Friday and we won't come back until January 2nd. I'm not happy about that. It is additional driving time back to Texas then back to Iowa to finish up. At least I will be home for Christmas, but I'll be driving on New Years Day and maybe New Year's Eve. Oh well.

 

Over all I think that going into orientation during the winter months is actually a good idea. Seems like getting the winter driving time with a trainer is a little reassuring vs. going through it alone. If you don't forget everything you learned over the summer. LOL

Most interesting by far has been the Simulator. It is hard to get used to the video portion of it. I think it will make shifting the 13 speed much easier.

Because of the holidays we will be breaking this Friday and returning on January 2nd.

 

I finished up day 2 of driving... It's fun. About those simulators... They are not even close to what the real thing is. The petes out in the yard are much smoother to shift...
