Volvo, a piece of junk? Have you ever driven or been in one? I have driven a 379 ext hood pete and didn't care for it too much. The ride is nice but the room leaves a bit to be desired, getting between the seats and such. For what I do I want a W900L Aerocab Flattop, with the couch. I don't live in truck like you guys do, but if I did for driving and comfort both it would be a Volvo hands down, but that is a personal thing.

Gotta question maybe someone can help. I got my cdl from another well known flatbed company last October. I was furloughed from a former employer for a couple years by the time I went to cdl school. Well that employer called me half way thru my training. I had to decide to gamble the driving deal or go with what I knew I could live with. So I decided to go back to my former employer. So got the CDL but no experience. TMC was my second choice, and I see them advertise in my local paper for drivers all the time, I am right off of 85 in ne georgia. My job I went back to isnt near what it used to be, had I known I would have stayed with the driving gig. So the big question is, would TMC consider someone in my situation. I have a clean background, with zero problems.

Yes, TMC will look at you, unfortunatly, I believe they will require you to attend a CDL school again. There has been too much time since you attended. Of course, thereis always the possibility I don't know what I am talking about so talk to a recruiter.

If you are talking about obtaining your CDL in October of 2007 then it has been less than six months you will probably be all right. I got my CDL in the spring and started at TMC in the fall without a problem. That policy may have changed.

If you got your CDL in 2006 then you will most definitely have to return to school to get anyone to look at you.

I'll completely agree. I wouldn't stay with this truck if I had to live in it.
The driver in question is an O/O. I have seen his truck and drooled over it quite a few times here in Texas.

Besides stay off of the grass, the best info I can give someone going to orientation in Des Moines is to take your swim suit. I bought 1 from the co. store. There is 1 indoor pool and 2 hottubs and a steam room at the Baymont.....oh yea and a pool table.

I want to give my 2 cents worth in the freight rate debate. My division runs primarily for just 4 shippers. GP - sweetwater, National Gyp - Rotan, Lowes DC - Ennis, and Master Tubular pipe broker loads out of Houston.
TMC has a high freight rate as compared to other companies. At the same shipper ie Rotan we get paid more than Lonestar who gets more than Prime/Passmore. This is a normal business practice. At GP - Sweetwater we get alot more than Dent and a few other small carriers. Part of the difference is comvenience and reliabilty. We drop trailers at both to load and those shippers can count on 99.5% ontime. They are willing to pay extra to make sure that their loads get picked up and delivered ontime. Even if they have to live load because they are being slow, they agreed to the freight rate and FSC a week in advance.

Sometimes it works out in my favor better than expected.... It's monday and I'm sitting on the couch watching the news. I have had a busy morning doing honey doo's and I have an 8pm delivery at a local Home Depot. Wooo hoooo....down time.

What's up! Hey, are they taking on any drivers on TD anytime soon! Been thinking about coming back in, but would have to be on TD - no OTR and darn sure no Linehaul!

I am still within the window of coming back without a bunch of BS! And the bonehead I talked to the other day, did not even know they had the TD (Ghost) Fleet!

I scored some free WiFi at a Vermont rest area so I thought I would add a post and fix the "no posts exist" error since we have more pages than posts.

Yeah, People in Des Moines know only Linehaul and Longhaul. To get on my Home Depot dedicated I had to talk to the guy in charge of it. So I will bet that you need to go through someone on the inside since the special jobs are invisible to Des Moines, sorta like a one way mirror.

Yippers! That is the facts! The Ghost fleets do not get too much attention in the big room, unless something goes wrong! Guess that is a good thing, they are not always looking over your shoulder!
