![]() I had a tough load this week. We've had a truck stuck at the border since last night. After much haggling, calling lawyers and the police about putting a lein on the $500,000 shipment to secure my detention, today I finally rec'd a confirmation for 36 hours of detention. If Steve would trade that skateboard, I could really make him some money. Besides, it's easier for retirees to climb up on those step decks. Is freight picking up or did I just get lucky this week? Had my two best loads since November. $2400/350 miles on a SD and $2300/500 miles on a DD. Hope it continues. Good luck be safe.

Ok, I usually don't post or reply but I've been meaning to ask. What is the difference between a step deck and a drop deck? Are they the same?
Rank, did you ever think about going into freight brokering large scale? Offering a decent rate to O/O and still making a good living yourself? Seems you have the knack for finding decent paying loads. Just wondering.....

I think Rev either had electro shock or is reborn. My thread is kind of boring now.
I'm not sure but a step deck is like a flatbed but with a step down so the deck is low to the ground. The drop deck looks the same except the low flatbed part detaches from the rest of the trailer so you can drive like a tank onto it then hook it back together again. My truck is posted today but the outlook for New England looks pretty bleak. I sent a fax to Cresent this morning asking if they have any copper heading out to PA. From there I can pretty much go anywhere. I'm sure I'll take the hit of cheap freight getting out of here today. It was like Spring here in New Hampshire yesterday. I went down to my truck and sunk into a foot of mud in my sneakers! I'm all packed up and ready to head out and stay out for a while unless something else comes up. I bought 5 more winches for my truck so I have 20 on there now. I'm hoping that's enough to have some left over to hold down the tarp now if need be. Sliding winches are nice but they have a drawback in that you have to plan ahead and pick the ones you want to use and skip over others you may want to use to hold the tarp down. Not like you can rearrange after the fact. I had my coolant leak fixed so now I pretty much have ALL new hoses in my truck. I think they were all just about ready to give up soon. Had my 5th wheel rebuilt and the crossfires installed on the drives. I also had the seals around both doors replaced so now I don't get the sound of rushing air anymore, nice and tight! So, I'm ready to roll.....

Steve,
what about your trailer issue....did you seal those gaps?

No, I didn't seal them up yet. The place I park my truck is just a mess right now with snow, water and mud so for the time being I'll wait until everything dries out.

Drops and steps are the same as far as I know. Double drops have more drop than a step and therefore have a drop in the front and the back. The kind that detach are called detachable double drops or removable goose neck or RGN's....and I really wish I had one BTW.
We are a private carrier and a motor carrier. I don't have any shippers of my own so the only freight I have to broker is out own product. If I brokered that out I would be a cheap freight broker and I don't wanna go there. As far as finding good paying freight. You need to have specialized or semi specialized equipment and be willing to run lanes that nobody else does.
