My understanding is they are NOT self insured. I believe the insurance company is Liberty Insurance. My trainer was sent at Liberty's expense to a Decision Driving School in Massachusetts. He shared with me a number facts about safe driving learned at that school.

Actually the finally determination whether a driver can drive for Davis is decided by the insurance company; If the driver does not get clearance from Liberty, then he/she is done. There have been several Davis drivers that lost their jobs because of this even when the company wanted to keep them.

Depending on the company, many self insured companies are self insured up to let's say a million dollars and anything more than that the insurance company takes car of it. 8) 8)

Well I do not know 110% for sure, but it was explained to me that they were/are, hence why they can hire a newbie fresh out of school.

Oh, and that precision driving school is required before a trainer can become a trainer.

Well it looks like Davis is insured! I do not know if they are 100 percent insured or if they had to pay a portion of the lost loads, trucks and other damages.

I am certain the losses had to hurt them financially one way or another whether there insurance went up or if they had to pay a portion out of pocket. Since they are a small company a few accidents or rollovers could really hurt them.

My husband unloaded today at the Marine Base in San Diego California. He said he actually got to see the Mexican Border through allot of his drive today. I guess he saw the Rio Grande.

He said it took them quite a while to unload him down there. He almost got a load but it was canceled. He is number one on the list so hopefully he will get headed out tomorrow.

He spoke to his DM in the office today and let him know our decision not to go to the L/O plan. They are going to give him a letter of recommendation and told him if he needs help finding work they would help re-locate him.

My husband asked to be routed up near home soon so he can go to the Canadian Border to see if he will be eligible to get in. I found out he will need a Birth Certificate to get back in so we had to order one and have it expedited as normal service will take 6-8 weeks.....NO GOOD if he wants to be working in 5 weeks somewhere that may go into Canada.

I guess Davis will be selling the property they own in Iowa and giving up the lease on the California property and the dispatchers will work from home in those places. I hope they can pull out of this and get turned around.

feederfred

Today my husband told me that the DM's all have a share or own a portion of the company at Davis Transport. I do not know how much they own but I am sure that they are scrambling to save it and are doing what they can.

They did not attempt any pressure on my husband to go L/O or no sale pitch. I think it will be a gamble for those that do and either they will do great or it could be bad. Hopefully they have a good business plan in order and can save the company!
