I signed no contract that I can remember.
I've heard some companies can be trigger-happy on DAC. When and why does TMC put something on a driver's DAC? Say I decide after a few months its just not for me or better yet, say I can't cut it during training will TMC, what will TMC do?
If you quit on good terms with proper notice and return the truck it should be no problem.
I'm a New Yorker and I love the east coast. Is it possible to stay in the northeast? Is it possible to be home daily (I'm from manhattan)? Is the freight better over here and is the pay better over here?
I too am from NYC (Queens) Yes you will stay in the Northeast. Chances of being home daily are slim until you qualify after 6 months or so to get a dedicated gig. Pay is much better here.
I am not opposed to running on weekends and nights, in some ways I would prefer it. Is it possible to run hard for 4 days and be off 3 consistently with TMC?
No
I hoping to be back in school in 1.5 years and would very much like to be in a good situation to do that. Any positives to running nights and weekends?
No, you usually get weekends off.
Whats up with detention at companies when your in a TMC truck? Do you get to the front of the line quicker? How is it in the N.E.?
Detention pay is almost non existent even if you ARE detained.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help.

Paul
Also don't forget you'll need to have a parking spot for your truck AND trailer for the weekends. Good luck finding one.

Yeah, you can stay on the east coast. Oddly enough, I recently had a conversation with a upper-management guy at TMC and he said that the rates in the Northeast quadrant of the company are better than other seriously depressed areas. Ordinarily it is the opposite.

Typically, the freight headed in to the northeast pays well and leaving stinks.

There is an agreement that is signed, which has a 6 month time on it! It is a training reimbursement clause, should you leave before the 6 month period. I believe at 3 months, they ding your pay for $500 and from 3 -6 months it is $250. It may be different a bit from experienced and new drivers. Not sure how it works if they are doing tuition reimbursement.

They do invest allot of time into orientation, training, and housing to get you on, so it is only fair that they have this clause!

As far as them being trigger happy on your DAC, if you leave on good terms, truck and equipment turned in properly, yadda yadda, they will not put any derogatory comments.

When I got my truck I already had my own XM radio "add-on" that I put in the truck but I THINK they have Sirrus that you can subscribe to built in. Starting in the cold is actually GOOD since you'll have a trainer with you during the hairy driving moments of black ice and frozen tarps plus it will be a little slower freight-wise so you won't have to kill yourself trying to make your appointments.
The trucks are "Owner-Operator" spec'ed with the "Platinum" interior package I believe Peterbilt calls it and LOTS of add-on chrome and lights on the outside. The stereos are KICK ASS LOUD with a subwoffer and speakers all the way around- (Doors, headliner, rear sides, bunk, etc...) I brought LOTS of custom burned CD's to fill the hours and days of driving.
Where do you live?
Also go to www.flatbedfred.com (my old TMC site which is back up for nostalgia purposes only. The Diary section makes for interesting reading  .

It depends on where you live, if you are in the linehaul area you will most likely get a linehaul trainer. I run linehaul but live in a longhaul area; I was grandfathered because my Fleet Manager wanted to keep me in his fleet when I moved. It is whoever is available and where. Some of my trainees live within 50 miles and some have to really travel. If the trainer that is closest to you is with another trainer then you get the next closest available trainer. If you are over 150 miles away, you get put up in a hotel near the trainer. If you need any more info, PM me with your name and phone number.
