Dispatch call and wanted me to run tonight, participating in the hurricane relief effort. They have Home Depot runs to somewhere on the coast. I have an appointment with a crane on Monday morning so I couldn't go. Could mean some extra money for some of you.

I have heard of a couple of trucks that had been offered FEMA Loads from the company also. Running them into the valley, I was in McAllen this AM, things were still quiet.

NWS is still projecting Dean to stay way south of Brownsville anyway, just hope it does not pull a Gilbert, that sucker turned North after hitting land and spawned s-loads of Tornadoes and lots of flooding.

Is there anybody here who runs mileage during the winter who is linehaul? So far hubby's pay has run real close on percentage to what it would run on mileage. He's also going to talk to his FM about not getting to pick loads. He apparantly has never gotten a choice about loads, his FM just gives him one.... and had run 3 copper loads in the 5 weeks he's been on his own.
Either way..for right now he is longhaul, but will be switching mid October if not a touch before that, but we're trying to consider the mileage/percentage debate for over winter. Thanks for any input.

Hey madii'swife, not to change the subject, but how's it going? Everything going good for yall? He still likes it?

I remember I picked up a couple loads of copper in Arizona. Marina, or something like that. Not too far from Eloy, Az. Took the loads to some place in McKinney. I thought I was in Mexico, by the time I found the mine. :P

By the way, dad loves the radio. He said that he has talked to his old buddies that have base radios, here in town. :?

While I don't work at TMC any longer, I can give you some advice. If you wish to work for them, there is one GOOD thing in your post that will help you, and one BAD thing that will stop you.
First the good thing you said: Its just fun to me the challenges of putting anything on a flat serface and figuring out how keep it there either being straps, chains or rope !!
Now the bad thing from your post: I dont need to be trained just give me a truck & trailer and my equipment I need and let me GO !!

The good thing I mentioned above is important in my eyes because that's EXACTLY how I feel about flatbedding and it goes a long way in keeping your spirits up.
The bad thing is that TMC HATES the attitude of "I know it all and no one can teach me any better or different.

You WILL be required to go out with a trainer even if just to evaluate your abilities. Training can run anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks depending on how well you can do it the "TMC way".

Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way and agree with most of their policies.

I do not think we have enough frieght in and out of Cali to get you home on a regular basis, home time would more than likely be tough. And on percentage, the rates out of the West coast are not the best.

TMC is like any other, they have some great points and some bad points, but overall, they are a fair company to work for, providing you are willing to work with your Fleet Manager and Safety. IF the Fleet Manager is not doing it for you, you can request a different one.

I run the Long Haul division, and overall enjoy it! At the advise of my fleet manager, who is one of the more experienced, I am switching my pay scale over to mileage for the winter. With most of my running fairly close to the I35 corridor and west, this is the best option. Will switch back to Percentage in February when the rates come back up and housing construction builds up again.

Have spoken with allot of guys that just have fits with the Fleet Managers, but do not try and work it out, they just gripe and complain. They way I see it, they have created their own issues and are just looking for someone to blame.

Your biggest issue will more than likely be being California based, but give a recruiter a call to verify hometime for that area.

Good Luck.

Jackrabbit,

He still really enjoys it Good money too so far, so no real complaints, except the too many loads of copper LOL.

Marina is close, its Marincie, or Tyrone, NM. I don't like it because he doesn't have phone reception the whole time he's in the mountains!

I'm so glad the radio is working out for him! We are fixing to go into move mode, so I'm sorting and getting rid of tons of junk and staff I'm excited about moving back though, going up into OK, which among other things will put him in linehaul.

First off I dont have an Attitude I just tired of people saying one thing and doing another if you know what mean !! Second , the day I know EVERYTHING abt driving or how to properly secure a load is the day I walk away. Theres alway something more to learn . I love to drive and I really miss flatbedding and the open road . The best way to find out abt a company is though its drivers . If Im going to make a change in life I would hopefully want it to a good one.. And if every thing works out I have NO problem relocating and my family supports this . My little girl want to see the world ..THANKS
