Default A long day?

TerryLamar...

Running from Shippensburg to Indy is just a NORMAL day...600 miles.
If this is running you ragged maybe you need to find a different profession.

And to Country Horseman....Just because you see TMC trucks down the road from you all the time doesn't mean anything.

The main reason I left TMC was because they could never get me any of those loads just down the street from my house. They love playing games with you.

I live across the street from an account TMC hauls approximately 50 loads a week out of and not once in a year did I get a load from there.

Good Luck!

But the best thing would be when I was close to home on a Friday and could have been home at a decent time but was given a load 400-500 miles in the opposite direction so I would get home till Saturday and then be expected to leave out again on Sunday.

Sure, if you have 11 hours to do it in. The point was I didn't have 11 hours. I had the hours to do it with only 6 minutes to spare, at the start of the day.

WOW this thread's been busy!!!
Just wanted to drop a note here for those waiting on a result from recruiting. If you like, call me at 1-888-215-5669 and if I'm home (or when I get home) I'll look up your application for you. You can call any time AFTER 24 hours have passed since your application has been submitted. That's how long it will take before I can get access to it.
Good luck to all!

Well, I am not really concerned whether I pull loads out of CMC or not! I just know that TMC has plenty of frieght coming and going out of the SATX area. I have worked for a big fleet before, that did not have frieght in this area, and it was next to impossible to get home.

From what I have read and heard, TMC guarantees in writing the linehaul drivers home most weekends. And I have yet to hear anyone dispute that. Now, there will probably be times when a DM or FM asked to run and extra load, I will make that decision based on what I have planned. I want to get into flatbedding to make a good salary and decent hometime. So far I would say that 95 - 98 percent of current and past drivers will agree with that. Those that do not are either:
a. Not cut out for OTR
b. Lazy, not wanting to work
c. have issues the prohibit them to work at maximum potential and thus have a great time doing this kind of work.
d. clash with the FM and constantly refuse loads. (I guess that would probably fit under c.)

These issues are not TMC issues, but issues that allot unhappy drivers have, regardless of the fleet. The last big OTR company I worked for, the drop-out rate was over 80% in training. OTR is not for everyone, and flat-bed is for even fewer.

Cooperation, Communication, Dependibility and Safety are 4 things I believe in greatly. If those stay at the top of my priority list, then there should be no issues with a DM or FM getting me the best loads and hometime.

Thank You to all the drivers with subjective points of view that have submitted post on this thread. And as for those that just wish to spread discontent, we hope you find your nitch in life.

Thanks,

CountryHorseman

Countryhorseman, you have a great attitude coming from a great State and you are looking at a great company. Have yourself a great day. Seriously though, if you have any questions or I can help you in any way PM or email me. I'm from Austin and when I'm in your area I you can come over and check out the equipment. I have taken two loads out of CMC, one from Berridge also out of Sequin and delivered other loads to Sequin and SA and the surrounding area. I'll tell you how I see it, just remember I'm new to TMC and the industry. There are many more TMC drivers on here much more knowledgeable than I.

Thanks Terry, will try to take you up on that. CAD will not let me do the PM thing yet, seems you have to have over 50 posts first. Anyway, have a great evening.

Hello All
I Graduated from a PTDI certified school March 2nd and haven't done anything with them ,yet, just scared to take that next step i guess .Ive been reading on cad for about 6 month , almost daily and I have really learned a lot. I want to ask a question that has asked on here a hundred times before but.this time I would like to be a little more specific..but first let me give you a little background on myself. I work in a factory everyone knows how factory work is ,here today gone tomorrow, I have been there for 18 years, pretty good money and benefits but the working conditions suck, I know what everyone's going to say truck driver work conditions suck too. Hard to decide which is worse without seeing both sides.we have a new management group as of about 3 years ago an they have turned the place into' well let's just say' It's not a very pleasant place to work anymore. I've been trying to talk myself into leaving for over a year now. It's just hard to walk away from 18 years and all the benefit I have worked for. I could live without all the holiday and vacation I guess the real killer for me would be the money. right now I'm making a little more than $700.00 a week gross, after taxes insurance and the likes, I bring home about $475.00 . which bring me to my question I have read on cad you can make anywhere between $35,000 and $60,000 your first year that's a big spread. What can I reasonably expect to make, working for TMC, Go black and chrome!!,only way to go!!. driving line haul, and be home most weekends ? I have done a lot of research and If I go anywhere It will be with TMC and line haul, which is why I posted on this forum. I have to be able to make what I an now to pay the bills. is it possible ? what should I expect?
sorry for the long post I know that's a lot to ask one little question. But for me this is a big decision one of the biggest of my life. thanks for all your input. any advice is appreciated.
