If he has been through the Haz-Mat background check, and still holds the endorsement, there shouldn't be any reason for any company to deny him employment, based on his prior record. The new background checks by TSA are supposed to clear him for working.

I'm not sure that that's necessarily true. Though I'm aware that the newer hazmat endorsement requires a background check, some companies, i.e. UPS, FedEx, Heartland, household goods movers, ask if an applicant has EVER had a felony and automatically excludes based on that. The hazmat background check goes back "x" number of years...can't remember exactly how many.

With his experience going local shouldn't be an issue. I know we've hired guys with less than a year of otr experience and their running the road. Be helpful to have his Tanker and Doubles endorsements as well.

Tbrown...

Have your fiance swing down by Otay Mesa and see what companies are down there. He might get lucky and find a flatbed driver who does local work that he can speak with. Did your fiance get his license while in SD or somewhere else? If in SD contact the school and they can give references of local companies to speak with. Or....Call my old schools main office on Camino Del Rio South. It is called United Truck Driving School. They have a lady there that he can speak with.

Are you talking about the tank farm near "The Q"? That thing has been there forever.... I thought they didn't use it.

Atlantic Richfield (Arco gas stations) has a terminal down on Harbor Drive close to Nasco Shipyards, if he wants to haul gas.

Born/raised in SD I moved up by Temecula in 2000.

GO CHARGERS!

Smart move staying away from the coolie OTR carriers:

2007 Teamster wages under the NMFA (National Master Freight Agreeement) are:

City driver base rate: $22.21/hour
Linehaul mileage rate: .5496 cpm

Overtime after 8/40 hours. Guaranteed at least 8 hours/day in the city if you punch-in. You pay $0/week for medical benefits. Teamster pension.

Greenhorns earn 75% of the current wage for the first year, 80% for the next six months, 90% after 18 months and 100% of the full base rate beginning on their second anniversary.

I am on a mission to get into a union company. A very good friend of mine works for UPS and one day he explained it all to me. To say the least I was shocked!

What did he say.....? I'm thinking I'd like to drive local and sleep in my own bed every night since I've been home for a month now.
