My thinking is the only thing you will risk is a chat with a safety guy even if they do notice and care. Your job will be fine unless you give someone attitude about it. There are the stories about people being fired on the spot for giving lip back to Harold A.

I do await the official response though. Keep looking until someone gives you permission to have a ladder, like the training dept or your safety guy.

I will be willing to bet that by the end of training you will feel more like a monkey though.

I recieved some very dissapointing news this morning. I have 12 yrs OTR experience, 6 years local. Over 1 million accident free miles along with numerous driver awards, but because the fact that I have been self employed for the last 2 years without driving I was told that TMC would not hire me or that I would have to go back to school and then they might consider me. Wow, my pride just went out the window.
But anyway, thank you to all that were so helpful in answering all my questions. Guess I'll keep looking.

I was begining to lose hope, after a dozen or so "turn downs" because of the same reason I was finally able to get a green light at Shelton in FL.
I'll be off for orientation on Monday. Hope it turns out to be a good company because it seems like that's the only place left for me to get back in the swing of things. Wish me luck!

Website will be back up in a couple of weeks with a few "tweaks" to make it a more "general" trucking site which should give me the challenge and opportunity to write about all types of rigs from flats to tanks to vans. Wish me luck![/quote]

Does anyone know if Fred ever got his trucking web site up again? And if so can you post the link? Thanks

Fred had been in here fairly regular a couple of weeks back! I believe he put the old site back up, I think I had read somewhere! Will have to check back in the archives!

haha, no, 5'9. problem was there was nothing to grab on to and no way to stand on the rub rails. can't walk up walls.

this week was an adventure, got stuck for 15 hours at Efco in Marlboro, NJ waiting for a load. my new trainer is great though, we hauled a lot of shingles and got a load of Griffin pipe going to CA for next week. I could get used to this. if you see truck 81082 headed west, wave.

I used to "shimmy" up the tallest (13' 6"), flattest loads by going up between the cab and trailer. A flatbedder can ALWAYS find his (her) way on top of their load. Just takes effort, determination and practice. I've even "rapelled" (spelling?) up using a nylon strap secured on the opposite side. Then again I'm 6' 4" tall, 205lbs. and in fairy decent shape.
