Why don't you start calling at 0700 and keep calling until you reach a recruiter. This is a problem that has been brought up numerous times and I don't understand why recruiters don't, either, answer the phone or return calls.

Recruiters won't return calls for an application that has been declined. I'm not suggesting that your app has been rejected, just offering one explanation.
I don't know WHY this is policy at TMC, but it is.
DWI's
Felonies
Moving Violations
Over 55 years old
Bad back or knees
ANY prescription medication (almost)
and others I'm sure I forgot to mention will all result in your not being called (or hired).

So how long does it take TMC to decide not to hire you or to hire you? I to am waiting for a call back. I talked to a recruiter last Thursday and filled out a app then. He sounded positive about my position and so on. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken, they review applications on a specific day of the week, usually in a committee setting. Keep bugging your recruiter. Many employers like to see potential employees show effort in following up on applications. In the new internet, e-mail, online application world there are just piles and piles of applications. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Yea thats good advise. I will call him today. Seems easy to slip through the cracks of the good companys. Heck Schneider kept calling me back when I first signed up. They were like "Are you sure your coming" LOL I guess people bail on them all the time. We will see. Thanks again for your response.

Hello everyone,

First time posting here. Best of luck to you getting a call Ben. I've been looking at TMC for a long time and faithfully reading this forum for the last year or so.
I am currently a heavy equipment mechanic, 24 years old, married 2 years and hope to eventually find a trucking profession, maybe. I really appreciate all the information here, especially from Flatbed Fred, VonSeggern, TerryLamar and Rawlco. You all seem like very intelligent, respectable gentleman. I just figured I'd finally drop in, say hello and join some conversation.
Some of the reasons I have not gone into trucking yet is the economy, possible pay cut, and difficulty leaving my wife at first. My job now is very secure and pays well. Yet can be extremely physically demanding and mentally stressful. I can not see myself surviving this profession until possible retirement. Most other field mechanics don't make it to retirement either. They either find another profession or die from steel mill dust, cancer, andn landfill bacteria. I'm not claiming to be a quitter, just seeking the profession I always wanted to do.
I currently drive a service truck (for mechanical work), and work outside all day, every day no matter what the elements. I usually get Sundays off. I've been studying the trucking industry since I was very young. I felt flatbedding would be a great place to start for me (I could be wrong). I am fully willing to learn anything from anybody, have a lot of patience, good customer skills and work ethics. I just havent made the big decision to move yet.

Thanks for the kind words. Good luck to you as well. There is plenty of information on this site. And if you cant find what your looking for there is plenty of drivers that have no problem sharing the opinions to you.

they were advertising for dedicated in my area so I tried to get ahold of them but I can't seem to get anyone to return the effort either so I'm off to something else. I have the experience, the work history and the clean record so I don't know why they don't call anybody back.

I just don't get it. TMC advertises for drivers in all those dumb magazines in truck stops, the Pilot magazine, and on Sirius ( and probably XM too) radio....and recruiters don't follow up?

Coming from someone who did the recruiting thing (me) both in Des Moines and from home via the web I can assure you that when I was doing it, the recruiters ALWAYS called back viable prospects.
I can't tell you how many times guys from this very thread bitched and complained about how great they were, how qualified they were, how squeaky clean their records were and on and on when the truth was 99.9% of the time if they weren't called back, there was a skeleton in their closet they "forgot" to mention either on here or on their application.
It use to REALLY pi$$ me off when I'd go to bat for someone from this thread against one of my fellow recruiters after the applicant swore up and down how great they were, and then have the recruiter assigned to his application throw in my face the REAL truth about him.
A note to all prospective applicants: TMC DOES CHECK YOUR HISTORY OVER WITH A FINER TOOTH COMB THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE! It's almost SCARY how much the find out about you from past employers, the police, child welfare, and much more.
If you ARE truly clean, by all means keep calling your recruiter. If not, stop wasting their time and yours and look elsewhere. If there's a bone in your closet, TMC WILL FIND IT.
That being said, sometimes good applications do get lost or passed over by accident. TMC gets THOUSANDS of applications per week and only has less than a dozen recruiters. They are truly busy, that's not a lie when they tell you that.
Good luck to all that apply. The company is a good one to work for and if flatbedding is for you, you'll be hard pressed to find a better outfit.
