Thanks Terry!

As for Mark. The training program is fine. It's nice that as an experienced driver, they didn't waste my time on stuff that I can learn as I go along. 3 days and I'm right into making money, instead of parked in a classroom.

A company can't foresee problems such as leaky windows and the electrical problems, But being too heavy. Who comes up with which model truck to buy and then find out they are too heavy? Wouldn't somebody say "Hey, We know what equipment we are going to install on this truck such as this headache rack and stuff what is the darn thing going to weigh when it is ready to roll? Being overweight on a steer axle empty is just poor planning. And it isn't the drivers problem. Somebody didn't do their homework.

Actually I believe that the 387 is usually heavy on the steers unless it is equipped with very small fuel tanks set back at the drives. It is a design "flaw" if you want to call it that by Peterbilt, and as such it is a non issue at scales. DOT knows that once you burn off another 20 gallons of fuel you will be legal again, so they are nice about it.

This is the reason that there are so few 387's in the fleet, and they were purchased due to driver demand combined with TMC's preference to stick with Peterbilt.


Regarding Transflo I don't have a problem with it. I am operating under the premise that TMC wants the documents by the time they start work on the third day of business after I send my empty same as with the Trippack. That gives me the day I deliver plus two more full days after that to find a transflo equipped truckstop. That has not been a problem for me anytime yet, although this week I did have Fridays, Mondays, and Tuesdays documents all to be scanned on Tuesday. Both Friday and Monday I had short loads out of Buchanan NY that didn't go near a Pilot. That was still within the three day turnaround time though.

I had a decent week for being in the Northeast doing linehaul runs. From Friday the 11th thru the 18th I ran a total of 1508 routed miles, including loaded and empty. That brought in $3100 to the truck, and I will get over $1000 in my paycheck once you include the stop, tarp, and bounce pay. I believe that comes to $0.66 per mile for you guys that think mileage pay is better. Of course Friday morning I was 600 miles from home, and I got tired driving all that way in one day after goofing off all week. :lol:

Just wondering if your safety department knows that you are typing a message on your laptop while driving down the road? I'm sure that they might love hearing that.

You mentioned in another post about killing off the O/O by slashing rates. The rates are effected by what the shipper wants to pay and how many carriers are willing to take their freight. I can tell you that rates for what we haul in Texas is between $1.70 and $4 / mile before FSC. Not only are we not losing O/O's we are gaining them since TMC pays 72-78% and not 90c / mile like Melton. Running for 90cpm means running at a loss. Talk about killing the O/O.

You are quite correct, someone did not do their homework. As with any company, in trucking or otherwise, bad decisions are sometimes made. Not so worried about the steers, the DOT is very understanding about steers...if they are in a good mood. The setup on the 387 was such that you have to really watch your drive weight P's and Q's, especially with more than a half a tank.

Yeah, I also whined about Transflo. I have to take it back because it is darned quick, once you get to the cashier. I believe that most or all Love's do Transflo also.

I am unfortunately broke down and sitting at home watching TV. Because of the -4 temperature I ran the truck last night and when I got to the truck today there was a bunch of coolant all over the place. Luckily the super cold weather kept the coolant free oil temperature very low. So much for 5 loads this week.

Rawlco,

Thanks for the reply in regards to the parking on weekends. I'm going to have to find somewhere to park because the driveway isn't big enough.

I go to orientation on Feb. 18 and am excited/ nervous about it, but will just go and do my best. Thanks again for the parking info.
