Firearms are prohibited in any TMC vehicle and on the grounds of most of our shippers so it's a "no-no".

Hey guys. Just a short update... I'm here since sunday night, and this place rocks. All the instructors are professionals, and they treat you fairly, and are like the nicest people i ever met (being from NYC  )
We had a TMC recruiter come down from Des Moines today and talk to us personally. Thanks Matt for sending him as encouragement. I hope he brings back good news to you guys about me...
Anyways I was really pleased with how he acted, and how he represented the TMC people...
Little insight: @ School we are 2 students who go to TMC, and about 33 that'll go to CRST Van Ex. And for one thing is sure. The CRST recruiters are lying, b/c that's all i hear from the students. They don't pick up their phones etc.
I knew there was a reason i didn't go with them.
Ride on, TMC... Ride on... Can't wait to get out of here, and finally go up to the mothershipp!!!!!!!!
Cheers guys, and i'll keep you guys posted if anything interesting happens...
BND
P.S.: I saw my logbook for the first time today, and had a test on it about 15 Minutes later, and aced it. Only had one mistake, and it wasn't in hours...
Me so happy...

James said good things about you so no worries. I didn't realize CRST has that many recruits over there.

Yeah, I just remembered that CRST is notorious for suing companies if they take one of their contracted students. I forgot to mention that the other day. Keep up the good job over there. Have a good weekend also, I'll be here till 5pm today

That's what I figured.
No firearms policies don't carry the weight of the law in most jurisdictions. TX being one of the exceptions.

Right, not in NY though. Nice to see some pro-gun folks on here, we must think alike.

does CRST have legal grounds for doing that? the contract would be between them and the student; and a new company wouldn't necessarily know if the student was under contract with them unless he/she told the company. Just curious. some companies go to great lengths to lock people into their ridiculous contracts and job "opportunities"

The contract is still a legal binding document. There was a lawsuit last year CRST vs JBHunt in which CRST sued JB for stealing their contract students. JB claims that people are free and should not be treated as indentured servants but the court sided with CRST and made JB pay back for all of the slaves that they hired. I was with JB at the time and we were told not to ever attempt to recruit a CRST driver or we could be terminated.

DSM
Some advise for drivers going to DSM.
1) Don't ride the bus. Have TMC rent you a car. It costs them the same as the bus. They give you a PO and all you have to pay for is gas, and you'll get that back in your first or second paycheck.
2) take swim trucks. There is 1 indoor pool and 2 indoor hot tubs.
3) take laptop. Free WiFi .. woohoo!!
4) Don't drink, smoke dope, or do anything to get into trouble while in DSM. You are being watched and you will find your own way home.
5) take your won pool cue. There are 2 tables but no cues when I was there.
6) take extra cash, cigs, water, sodas and snacks. The terminal is a few miles from the nearest store. The Baymont has room service. The food is good, hot, fresh, and reasonably priced. The TMC burger is huge.
7) STAY OFF OF THE GRASS!!!!!! Unless you want to walk home.
Most rooms don't have fridges or microwaves. You can find nukers in the halls. If you get a suite with extras you will share with 2 others. Other wise you will only have 1 roommate.
