Policing our own is something that happens far, far too infrequently and my hat is off to those that step up to the plate and do it. But because few others do, the image that most non-drivers hold of truckers is rather low. Whether it's smoking dope or whizzing on the fuel island or dumping garbage in the lot, if no one points it out and makes the attempt to get that behavior changed, the image will continue to plummet and that hurts EVERYBODY, including you.
Bottom line, if you're going to smoke pot, you've no business being on the road. PERIOD. If you have a problem with people pointing that out, you're part of the image problem that many drivers are trying to fix.

The problem I had with this thread was it's tone toward a guy who has done the right things and seems to be getting his act together. Why ridicule him? I do not advocate substance abuse of any kind, which is my point. Why the division between pot and alcohol? In our profession, impaired drivers who have had way too much to drink the night before are a much greater problem than a drug screen that came back positive for marijuana. Policing our own is good. Problem is, given the mood of the country and it's people right now, some of us doing the policing know little of humility, understanding, and compassion. They will become dictators, not cops looking to make the roads safer.
For those of you wondering, I've been sober since Nov 17, 1992. I know of what I speak.

Last I checked:
GW Bush: AWOL when drug screening started in the Air Force.
Dick Cheney: 3 DWI arrests (that we know of).
Laura Bush: Killed someone in Texas while driving drunk.
I agree. Alcohol kills and destroys quite effectively...unless you're well connected, I guess.

Would you care to share where you found that sort of information?
I have read of the AWOL stories and Bush, but none with ANY connection to drug screening.
Dick Cheney; Have no clue there. Were there convictions?
Laura Bush; I have read alot about her accident and NEVER once did I read anywhere that alcohol was involved, or did you mean that the person that Laura Bush was in the accident with was drunk?
Like I said, I would really like to know where you got this information.
Thanks

Well, the big thing is that right now, alcohol is legal and pot is not. I don't necessarily disagree that alcohol is a bigger problem than pot is because for all intents and purposes, you're right. Truth be told, there is little tolerance for either and rightfully so. I just want to make sure it's discussed without any underhanded comments.

Give me a little bit and I'll post links for you. There is a very interesting history here, going back to W's father and mistress involved in a DWI. Where Cheney and Bush are concerned, both were convicted of driving under the influence. Google seach Cheney DWI, or Bush DWI (you can do DUI as well) or Laura Bush DUI/DWI and everything will be right there for you. Some of the sites are credible, some have an agenda, but they are all in agreement with the facts.

I drove truck for 26 years before being forced out of driving because of an injury and have great disdain for someone that purposely puts their lively hood on the line for drugs or alcohol.
I also can not for the life of me see why someone would do drugs or drink and drive when they know the consequences of their actions and then piss and moan they got caught.
This guy got damn lucky he found someone that hired him, and then comes on here saying hey I got caught but I found a job so it aint so bad when you get caught and that is pure horse manure.

Sorry, but I must respectfully beg to differ here:
I see absolutely NO indication that he is in any way "getting his act together"
First off, saying "*#*^@ y'all" to those who said he'd never drive again does NOT sound like a person who's really learned from his mistakes. G-Man specifically asked him if he was driving again, and has yet to receive a reply from him.
Sorry, but this dude is just another stoned loser, and I applaud everyone who has exhibited a "zero tolerance" attitude toward him.
Peace, Useless

I got curious too. Tried a search and this is what I came up with...
Features | THAT LIBERAL MEDIA
...its nerve up, has fired reporter Ted Cohen, who in July 2000 unearthed the story of George W. Bush's 1976 DWI arrest in Kennebunkport.
http://portlandphoenix.com/features/...s/03741836.asp
...bush dwi - his attorney general nominee lied and covered it up...
http://whistleass.typepad.com/boot_g...wi_his_at.html
That was just something very quick. Looks like, if I really did some looking, there may be more. He could be telling the truth.
