A lot of guys do that. I ran a modified Icom 706mkIIg for a while when I was on the road.

And the cops can be good company. I chatted with a Nevada Highway Patrol officer for about a 100 mile stretch a few years ago as we were traveling through the boonies together. I saw some sort of car closing in behind me as I was pulling up a hill and blinked the marker lights and hit the 4 ways to let him know I was a slowpoke and he didn't have to wait for me. Immediately I hear on the radio, "Its ok driver, I'm not in a real big hurry." We were talking for like 10 minutes before he let on that he was a cop. I had another radio scanning the highway patrol feqs (and the uhf links) so I knew that there was on very close because I had just heard a unit announce to the dispatcher that he was changing channels and would be on the repeater nearest to me. Anyway, the officer and I chatted about everything under the sun, from family to the company Christmas party I was going to the next day. He even turned out to be an officer in the commercial vehicle unit, and answered a few questions I had about HOS, and Hazmat regs. When we turned off of 93 on got onto I-80 He got a call and had to take off. He was a real nice guy though.
This project may end up being more fun than expected on my off time.
My Kenwwood was opened up a few short years ago because I was a Navy Marine Corps MARS Operator so the company I bought it from fixed it up for me after I showed them my MARS Lic.

I will be looking for a good all band Base Loaded Antenna to mount on the truck if the one there is not good enough for my auto tuner to load it up. Company has CB's installed in every truck.

I also have couple good 2 mtr rigs, one is all mode. I'll put my ham call sign on the back of the trailer with some kind of temp mount.

Thanks

Arkie

No doubt not a friend. Besides who needs friends anyway? Hell if you have one true friend in life you're lucky. But I think it is fair to say that it could be a partner. I mean if the broker has the ability to obtain work and another has the ability to obtain trucks and maintain them and all the rest that goes into running a truck, then I feel, call me naive, that working together will be mutually beneficial. Nobody can do it all on their own.

I just listened to the story of McDonalds. It was fascinating. We alway hear about Ray Kroc but all he did was, well no not all he did, but he put together the right set of people. We are all good at something and to find that one thing and work together towards a common goal is the smart way to do things.

Easier said then done though.

The broker should be a partner with the carrier and some brokerages try to partner, but those bottom feeding load board brokers only want you to move it for their rate until they get desperate. Then they will pay whatever to satisfy the customer.

Ya well, I'm better today and a little more wiser as far as brokers go and them talking to you like your their friend and sending you stupid ass cutsie chain letters with cats and dogs with big eyes and and and puke!!!!!!!!

I did almost 600 miles today and that was with my 2 hour nappie time. I had the cruise on 75 almost the whole way and most of the time the computer was saying between 8 and 11 mpg. I was even screaming up all the hills in Wyoming the whole way. It wasn't till I looked at the wind generators and they were pointing in my direction and I realized I had a mean tail wind. There was hardly no wind noise and at times it was completely quiet in the cab due to a wicked tail wind.

I got on the CB to tell the other drivers but they knew long before me...DUH.

I made it to Nebraska Bossleman truck stop and just pigged out on Subway with hot peppers. I'll pay for that in the end tomorrow.

Not much happened today other than drive drive and more driving. Utah and Wyoming on 80 is definetly a time to cruise, listen to music. I just happened to look on the side of the road at the exact moment and there was this cow with another one right behind him going down for something to eat and the other one crapped on his head. Yes, this is what trucking is all about. I kind of dreamed that was a broker on the receiving end.

I think I have this tarping down to a science now and the past few times the tarp is not flapping in the breeze. I'm sure you all know this but I found out that I need to put the bungee cords on the lowest D ring and not the highest.

This is the part where GMAN chimes in. "Yes Steve, you FUC%&#* up once again but you will learn little grass hopper cow crapping watcher".

I think this may be the last trip for one of my drive tires. It's a shame that I'll probably replace all 8 even though 6 are still good.

I'm not looking forward to dropping these onions off in Philly. My experience has been that all produce places are wicked tight to get into and in the middle of a highly congested area. On top of that I'll have like 2" on either side to take my tarps off and roll them up. Every time I deliver onions I'm a mess after and I end up having to drive for hours and hours before I can even find a place to pull over and clean up and take a break. Just more of an incentive to high tail it home after.

Time to get my coffee ready for the morning and put everything out for the next day. My favorite time is in the morning when I get up and I like to have everything done the night before
