Nice ride DD! I was gonna ask some questions on good price range and types of mileage to look for when buying a used truck, but you just gave me some idea on that "nice" 06 Pete you just bought.

KW900 W/Studio Sleeper. 72"or 86". I've been looking for you in the old Star DevilDice, here around OKC so now I'll have to keep an eye out for the ole Peterbilt. Congrats, I can only imagine how it feels to have your own truck. Especially a nice one. The Navy unit here at Tinker is a flying unit and I had to drop some equipment off at one of their hangars last week. The ole "swabies" treated my really good and they had a great sense of humor, (I like to cut up with folks). Me being an ex fly boy helped a little I think. I enjoy your posts, keep it up and good luck. I'll holler at you if I see you, it sounds like your through here quite a bit.

Thanks. The Pete feels like twice the truck my Star was and I'm pleased with it thus far. If I could have found a good deal on a W900 with the 86" sleeper I would have went that route.

Time for a quick update........

I delivered a load to Carson, Ca on Wednesday the 24th and had a military load lined up in El Centro, Ca for the 26th. Since I had a little time, I bounced up to Ontario to visit with a friend who was in the area for the day. On Thursday I headed down to El Centro, Ca and spent the remainder of the day and night sweating my butt off in the triple digit heat. Come Friday morning, I headed over to the base. I was looking forward to getting loaded and heading out of the area and hopefully into slightly cooler weather.

When I got there, there were 3 other trucks already waiting and one more that came in behind me. We were all shooting the breeze when a guy comes over to apologize for the long wait and tell us that there seems to be a problem. Apparently the Marines had rescheduled the shipment from Friday the 26th to Monday the 29th but the word never got down to the base logistics department or the to companies that sent trucks in.

After several hours, it was smoothed out that the shipments were definitely not going to happen until Monday and they (govt) will pay either $250 a day (3 days) layover if we wait or $750 for "truck ordered not used". Myself and the other 2 Landstar driver had already been looking on the load board and there just wasn't anything worth getting so we decided to take the $750 ($250 a day) and wait until Monday. The other 2 drivers from the other company ultimately decided the same thing.

So we all headed back to the truck stop in El Centro for the weekend. By noon my outside temp gage was showing 122 degrees and I said the hell with it and decided to spring for a hotel room at the Comfort Inn next door to the truck stop. 2 other drivers did the same thing. So here I sit in a cool hotel room just chilling out until Monday.

The "new" truck is running smoothly and I am very pleased with it. I checked my fuel mileage and thus far am averaging 6.1mpg. It's not as good as the Western Star but it's not too terrible. I did have one issue where my turn signal/flashers would stop working. I had to press the reset button and then they would work for a while and go out again. I got to investigating and discovered that there were some wires that were spliced into the turn signal wires. Not only was it a very poor wiring job, but there was a spot where it appeared the wires had rubbed on the hood hinge and more than like were shorting out. I pulled all the crap wiring out (not sure what the previous owner had hooked up) and re spliced the original wires together and wrapped some rubber around where the harness would rub the hood hinge. Tried the flashers and nothing happened. Did a little more investigating and determined that the flasher relay switch was more than like bad. Lucky for me, there is a "Auto Zone" parts store across the street and they actually had the exact relay that I needed. I replace the relay and now everything works fine.
