I've hauled a load one day with a $0.40/mi FSC, and the next day a load with a $1.00/mi FSC. It really varies, but once you've gotten a few loads under your belt, you learn how to quickly do the math to figure out your rate. If a load on the load board doesn't specifically state what the FSC is, then it is likely included in the rate. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

Dumb question, but they automatically break that FSC out when you get your settlement right? In other words, if you see a load on the board that is say $2.00 mile for say 1,000 miles.......and say .40 of it is the FSC.....when you get your settlement, LS didn't take their cut off the 2,000 total but the 1600 instead right?

guess what I am getting at is that you don't have to make sure that LS breaks that FSC out like you would if dealing with a broker from a public load board

Correct. You'll know what the breakdown is before you ever haul the load.

No. They break it out, and it is broken down on your settlement sheet. When you accept a load, you can get an advance on that load. Say, for example, you are hauling a load that pays $1600 gross plus $400 FSC. You can get an advance as soon as you accept the load for 30% of the gross plus 100% of the FSC. On that particular load, your advance would be $880 (30% of 1600 = 480 plus $400). So you will know immediately if it is being billed correctly. Even if you choose not to take the advance, you can check what the advance would be on the Landstar website just to make sure that the numbers are correct.

Then, when you are paid on the load, you get the remaining balance. For example, on that particular load pulling your own trailer, you would have gotten $1168 plus $400 FSC. Since you already took $880 of that in an advance, you would get the remaining $688 on your settlement.

Thanks Rev, I appreciate the info......... According to Broncrider, their line haul rates seem pretty decent especially compared to Davis. Got a big decision ahead of me as to whether to sign on with Landstar or Lone Star......

And that is a decision only you can make. And I give you credit for actually doing research before making it.

DD, I have responded several times to your Lone Star thread and I really feel that in your situation ( based in TX) you will be way better off under Lone Star's freight. They have a tremendous amount of freight coming in and out of TX. They have a lot of connections with the pipeline companies in that area hauling all sorts of equipment and supplies.

I can assure you that Lonestar will keep you under damn good freight most of the time. Landstar seems to be based more on ur ability to plan your own freight lanes and how well you figure out their system. There is a guy from down ur way who used to run out of Lonestar's Memphis terminal with my uncle. He liked to run out of Memphis cause he could get in on all the FedEx engine loads. He would never have trouble getting back home to TX cause he could run system freight back home.

In know way am I trying to tell you what to do, but I really hope you give Lonestar a good look. I feel you can't go wrong with a company that has such a freight base as they do and the fact that they do have lots of TX connections to get you in or out. I know my uncle really loved pulling for them and never had any trouble making damn good money! Keep us updated, and let us know when u pull the trigger!

Thanks again....I appreciate and and all information.

I did receive the stamped schedule 1 fax from the IRS first thing this morning. I in turn called Lone Star and faxed it to them just to be on the safe side and ensure all is good to go. I am now waiting for them to call me back to let me know if I have the green light. I'll update more later. Thanks again.
