I had my insurance modified to include Canada today also.
I'm finding it hard to find out what I have to do to haul a load up there. I know I can go in there 5 times in one year but I would like the real stuff/stickers or whatever I need.
I went through this before on the load board and of course I got tons of information that was incorrect including how you can't take a laptop into Canada. Go here http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/tr...instnbc-e.html to get a Canada Cutoms Carrier Code and PARS stickers to bring shipments into Canada. Go here http://www.nmfta.org/ and get a SCAC code and PAPS stickers. You need a SCAC if you're going to bring fright back into the US.
I wish I knew someone in Canada that could help me out and also pay them a fee to find me a load back out when I'm up there??????

When are you in WY and where to you want to go? We'll see who can get a better rate LOL.

There you go steve, stickers galore!
Another thing, you MUST sign up for e-manifests when coming back into the states. That "5 a year" crossing thing is probably only if you DON'T have stickers. I can't remember if that's canada or US. Probably Canada. Going into the US you *need* PAPS stickers, you need your entry in(that means calling the broker to make sure) then on top of that you need your e-manifest set up and all your paperwork in order. If you do not do the above, you'll be fined $5,000. I'm not joking.

Probably a good idea to have a passport to get into the US too.

Each province is a little different for U.S. carriers. For BC your insurer needs to file a Statement of Financial Responsibility along with a $30 fee (Canadian). In SK you have to get a trip permit each time. ON you have to apply for and receive the CVOR. QC, who knows, just call a permit agency. At a minimum, for all provinces make sure you have them on your cab card. There's also a 244" wheelbase limit for U.S. trucks, at least in the Western provinces. I can't remember if you can get an over-length permit or not.

Schneider Percent-of-Revenue-based lease option benefits:
65% of line-haul revenue, 100% fuel surcharge, 100% accessorial paid to owner-operator 12 months experience as over-the-road owner-operator required Many owner-operators average $1.30-$1.35 per mile while selecting there own loads and average over $165,000 per year
JB Hunt Percentage of load revenue:
With this option, you receive a rate equal to 65% of the gross revenue of each load, paid on all loaded miles. Unlike our traditional mileage plan, the percentage plan offers a 100% pass-through from the customer's fuel surcharge. Base plates, permits and fuel are deducted through weekly settlements. Contractors currently on this plan average about $1.40 per mile.

I will be ready for a load in Gillette WY on Thursday morning so we'll see how they do. I faxed back all the info to them that they require with a note as to when I'll be ready for a load. I won't hound them at all and see how they respond without being prompted. I did my part, lets see them do theirs.
Thanks for the pointers to the paperwork for Canada, I just couldn't find them when I searched. No Mexico for me ever, that's for sure!!!! I always carry my passport with me in the truck when I head out. I head over the Mexico now and then and feel better about having it with me. I don't have a police record at all although I was in jail once to raise money for the Jimmy Fund. I figure this dispatch service will pay for itself just by there negotiating skills. A lot of times I hear $1.90 for a load and all I say is "I'll TAKE IT". I'm sure they will do a little better than myself so it should at least pay for the fee they charge. I'm kind of bad not posting my truck as available when on the road knowing that I'll be empty on a certain date. That's one thing I figure they would work on while I'm driving and hopefully have something setup before I even unload. We'll see how they work out. I've contacted 2 or 3 dispatchers before and never heard a peep out of them other than one girl just kept sending me email jokes till I told her to leave me alone. I met this outfit at the Iowa80 truck show a few months ago. They had there own booth. They are sisters who run the place and at first I thought they were both models to attract attention. Well, time to saddle up, round up and mosey on down the road to my next load then off to Wyoming country and all that scenery.

Don't forget you can hang out with me in Kennewick, WA if you are passing through. Still plenty of room to park.

Ok, thanks Colin. Looks like your 100 miles away from where I'll be. I'm sure I'll be heading your way if I head into Montana or Washington so I'll give you a shout and maybe we could at least meet for a coffee.
