How do you figure out MPG on each trip? or do you just do it per fill up? I know a lot of guys break it down by trip and I'm not sure how to do that. Out of the two trucks I was going to buy, one had a meter on the dash, but I didn't get that one. The one I got doesn't even have a trip mile button. I'm not too happy about that.

Steve...you have mostly listed your truck rather than chasing posted freight. What % of your loads have been direct from shippers vs brokers?

I have a habit of filling my tanks when I get home from my 3 week trips so my tanks are always filled when I leave. I made my own form that has columns for date, state, gallons, cost, odometer reading, MPG and notes.

I use this form to do my IFTA every quarter which I originally made it for. Doing 600 miles a day I usually fill up every other day.

Yes, I mostly do post my truck. I only know a few shippers and it's very rare that I'm in that same location again when I need another load. I have one shipper within 40 miles from where I live that I get lots of loads to at least get out on the road when I start my 3 week trip.

I tend to let my phone ring rather than make a million calls. Sometimes I do see a load that I would like, I call and I usually get it. It would be very tough to only deal with shippers unless your going from one to another on the same routes. I'm sure I could do just hauling around New England but this is the last place I want to drive.

I have dealt with MANY shippers in the past but mostly because they just don't have enough trucks at the moment. These shippers don't normally farm there loads out but when they call they are in panic mode and pay pretty good.

Hi Steve A while back you mention that you never go over 2100 rpms on your DD S-60. How often and why do you go up to 2100 rpms?

That's allot of rpms, especailly when the sweet spot is about 1450. I have been driving DD S-60's for about 700,000 miles and can count on one hand how many times I have been at 1900. Those were a few times when my right foot got ahead of my right hand!!

Maybe your Star Car has a DD 8V71 with a "Series 60" Emblem on it LOL

Really Steve if you can keep your shift points down to 1500 (I know it's hard) your mpg's will increase. When the weather is warm, with 49,000 on the deck I get 8.3mpg. 1996 DD 370/430 hp, 3.90 rear end gears, 60mph, 967,000 mile engine.

Hey stranger....I mean steve....

Glad everything is OK with you. I HATE shots. Last trip to the ER I lied and told them all shots were up to date  I would rather take a beating then get a shot.

I updated on my thread....we have been so busy the days just go by in a blur, but weekends off is nice 8) . I want to go to the beach soon, but we are waiting till after the 4th weekends to do that.

we are selling the sailboat on EBAY soon. No time for her now and we are cutting to far from her to make it worth going over there every weekend.

I will talk to ya soon....
