All tru Gman but I think ( not going to look it up) if you were to break down NY crime stats into upstate and downstate (NYC and Albany is downstate) I think you'd find a much lower crime rate in the upstate erea. In the upstate area we ARE "allowed" to have handguns and unlike NYC we don't need permission to have a long gun!

You want to look at a Screwed up area look no Further than Chicago IL. Leads the Nation in Murder Assault with a Deadly Weapons and Felons with a Firearm in the USA. Things are so Bad the Chicago Police are DETAILED to go to the Gang Bangers FUNERALS to Stop KILLINGS that might happen there. That should tell you something they have the Most Restrictive Laws in the Nation for Any kind of Firearm ownership to the point until the Supreme Court Smacked them Down they BANNED HANDGUNS in the City. Yet their Answer is More Gun Laws to Control Violence in the City to the point and making the People that represent them Vote against anything that is FOR the 2nd Amendment.

IL just Lost a Major Court case in the 7th Circuit of Federal Court where if they do not pass a Concealed carry law here in IL we go Open Carry and there is NOTHING the State can do if I Read the decision Right. They are also about to lose their FOID card case and how are the Chicago Dems taking this Vowing to take it to the Supreme Court again.

I would say that you are correct about the difference in crime from upstate to downstate. Don't you still have to get a permit in New York to get or carry a handgun?

Yep still have to get a permit, but atleast it's good for life! Some states (IIRC) Ma. you have to renew every few years and pay all over again. I got mine about 25 years ago and it still cost aprox $125 back then, no idea how much now.

Not saying just anyone with a CCW can carry in a school zone... just, that there are exceptions that would "allow" the aforementioned "arming" of teachers or administrators, IF the school wanted to do so, without it being prohibited by the GFSZA. [Therefore... NOT requiring new laws to provide for the arming of teachers.]

I gotta admit that when I first heard this "suggestion" by those on the NRA-Right... I "scoffed" so gently that it only amounted to a spittle of rage down my chin. The more I consider it, the more I am open to it. [surprised?]

The principal and the Psychologist that charged the shooter showed tremendous courage and dedication. True heroes even by MY definition. Though I might prefer that they had a chance to tackle him while he was speed loading his Colt 45 revolver... I could entertain the idea that they might could have been well trained... and armed... and not sacrificed their lives armed with nothing but "spit-balls."

I do think, however, that the idea of training 1st graders in the art of confrontation and disarming a shooter is a bit of a stretch.

I am surprised that you may have changed your mind about allowing guns on school property. I think that the feds jumped too soon on making that a national law. It should have been left up to each state to decide if they wanted to disarm teachers and school administrators. There are ways to quickly reload a revolver, but you still can't compete with a semi automatic and changing a clip. I initially thought that it was ludicrous to train 1st graders to confront a shooter. Then, I considered that they would likely be killed either way. It might be rather frightening to see 100 screaming 1st graders running toward you with fists in the air. It could be unexpected by the shooter.
