Why was Michaels nickname "Pokey"?
Oh trust me.. there have been complaints in the past...

He got the name from a girlfriend.. (no, not for that).. he was poking her with a pencil or something and she yelled in the middle of class.. " STOP IT POKEY!".. and it stuck.

Well.....whomever is complaining can go "pack sand" or stop coming to this thread and reading about it if it bothers them that bad! I can't imagine!

Believe it or not, I hadn't thought about Pokey being about "that". LOL! It's funny how a nickname sticks sometimes from something innocently said.

I "knew" that I must have gone thru there before, but recently realized I always missed it cuz I was in the sleeper. 5 weeks ago I went thru again (often go from Dallas to K.C.) and this time I made my co-driver wake me up.

Honk and salute delivered as promised!

I noticed they were giving his highway a facelift when I went through. Hope he likes it.

Fozzy, went through last night and did give a honk in honor of your son. Sure hope the whole town heard it! Very nice sign. Hope you & the family are doing well.

Thanks for that! Sunday it will be five years since we lost him.. Sunday I will leave the house early alone and go to the cemetery and have a chat with him and later we will take the time to go to a local sports bar who will allow us to have a "beer for the fallen" display and we will meet with a few friends and and drink in his honor.. since I don't drink with the exception of these occasions. It will probably will mean a ride home.

I wrote this one last year.. but it is still relevant.. the other day as things happen this time of year..... He made himself come to the forefront of my day.. I was cleaning old files out of my desk and shredding anything with driver or applicant information on them.. the very last piece of paper in the drawer and I forgot it was there was the official death certificate for " E-3 / PFC Micheal E Phillips" and it related that since he was postumously awarded the rank of Specialist (E-4) that no pay for that rank would follow.. and other tidbits.. KIA by hostile fire in the Global War on Terror / Operation Iraqi Freedom was there and a few other things..

I ask that if you partake in an adult beverage on Sunday the 24th.. take the time to remember Micheal..

I have been working 7 days a week on call and called 24/7 since the beginning of the year.. had my wife not gone out and spruced things up for Micheal.. I would have been more bummed out and more heartsick than I already am..
