Well, we heard that the signs would be placed in September... to get a call from a friend of a friend that they were already up was just disturbing..To get a call from our Senator in a panic to apologize for not being told himself was weird.. but to give them (ODOT) some credit, they did cover the signs the next day..they are supposed to dedicate the section of I-35 next week sometime...

I suppose I could maybe google and find the info... but, do you have a link handy to the "program" website that makes these decisions and presentations? Either ODOT's OR any Federal agency involved? I've seen many signs dedicating sections of highways to UNITS or veterans groups, and even to fallen Highway patrol officers, but I think this is the first one I've heard of that is so "individually" specific for one of our fallen troops. Of COURSE I would also like to read the official proclamation on THIS section of highway, but I'd also like to know more about HOW they came to such a great decision on behalf of your son.

I had temporarily forgotten about the Post Office renaming in honor of Micheal. I found this from Youtube. Motion made (I believe) the very day after OBL met his just rewards.
Rep. James Lankford speaks on the "Specialist Micheal E. Phillips Post Office" - YouTube

Senators can be good for something, it seems! That was nice for him to reach out like that.

If it was Lankford he's a standup guy, along with his wife. They are HUGE supporters of my sons school in the city and they seem to be genuine from the couple of times I have been around them.

State Senator Frank Simpson got the Highway dedication done.. the ceremony is this coming Friday the 14th at 11:00.. No idea what to expect
Tom Cole our Senator got the Post Office dedication done, Mr Lankford brought it up for a vote. The City we live in has gone out of their way to ignore the whole thing. The Post Office refused to lower the flag when Governor Henry had the flags lowered when Micheal came home..a good friend of mine almost went to jail that day over the refusal.. they told him that it was a "State thing" and they were not required to lower their flag as they are a Federal entity... My wife has started collecting donations and working with some folks to send out packages to the deployed troops the day of the post office dedication..We sent the packages to Micheal from there so we shooting for 101 of them.. That ought to really irritate the post office folks! Full Disclosure….Honoring Pokey And All The Fallen « Knottie's Niche My wife's blog explains things better than I can.

Went to the dedication today..
Specialist Micheal Phillips Honored with Highway Renaming - KTEN.com - No One Gets You Closer Did NOT know that our senator changed the legislation for this so the families no longer have to pay $5,000 anymore.. I would have paid it.

I would have paid it. I honestly never knew that the families of the soldiers/airmen/sailors/marines, were responsible for paying for those signs. THAT is something THAT EACH STATE AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAPPILY PAY FOR. Y'all saw that right?? Fozzy's name is Steven!!
