I'm finishing up my non-productive week in New England tonight at Pilot- Bordentown, NJ tomorrow I pick up and head home to Arkansas- Russellville, Ar I-81- I-40 Grasshopper growing up.. he's fueling and parking all by self( hopefully without waking up his co-driver) Heading for Laughlin, NV again today. We'll be there two nights, one in the truck (or in the casino or movie theatre or...) and the other in a hotel. I think we have enough time for a 34 hr restart. Yup, trainer is confident enough to sleep through most stuff I do. Now if only I were that confident... ![]() yeah, been there done that-- won't take it anymore-- they put too much time on it- you can't reschedule/drop it early, and I'm not a gambler .... damn IXP loads. I'll only take that one to Wilmer and drop it. That's good that the trainer is showing he has confidence in you--- it's not good to set there and "eye ball" a trainee 11 hrs a day..every day... besides, he can lay back there( and if he has very much experience) can listen, and feel everything you're doing... he can hear you scratch gears, and feel if you swerve the truck-- drift off onto rumble strips--- god forbid something serious like panic brake or people blowing their horn at you! He also will know about what time you're gonna reach Flag Staff or coming into Alberque-- and can be up in that jump seat in time for the BIG HILL SHOW-- and any City driving to OBSERVE. the whole idea of setting up there all the time is total non-sense anyway-- from that seat(unless he has a set of controls over there) HE'S JUST ALONG FOR THE RIDE--- can't control/prevent a damn thing--- if the shit hits the fan. now maybe, his judgement- high aim steering might be more keen than yours-- but- given the time it takes to identify the (ohh shit!) situation unfolding ahead-- and communicating any INSTRUCTIONS, SUGGESTIONS, PRAYERS...unlikely to change the out come. And grabing the controls from YOU-- well, that would only make it worse. This is why you have a CDL in YOUR pocket-- and he's really just a driver finisher( showing you the ropes-- grand tour)

No, we picked up out of... I can't remember off the top of my head.
I don't gamble much. Dropped $20 or so tonight, and that'll be that for this trip. I do appreciate the free food they throw at CDL holders ![]() He sleeps through quick rumble strips, but if it takes longer, he's up in a shot. I've done the hills out of Albuquerque before, so that wasn't too hard. The tough (new) ones on this trip were NV 68 into Laughlin. He's pretty cool, and I'm pretty smart. Some people don't care for questions, but both trainers I've had have been good with answering them. There was one instance when I came to a near complete stop on I40 that he noticed. Was only due to some rubberneckers at a crash. I used to teach driver's ed, so I know a lot of things that are going through a trainer's mind. The nice thing about my old job was that I DID have controls so that I could wait until the last possible second to point things out or take control. Sometimes my trainer will flag me a little earlier than I need, but I would never think to complain. One reason I picked Crete (may have mentioned before) is due to the lengthy time you spend with an experienced trainer. I'd have been solo a week or a month ago with some of these companies, but I've learned a helluva lot in that time.

Tonight, Napoleon,OH . I spent most of the day on I-75 and damn there was a lot of heavy traffic the entire day. Several 10-15 minute back ups throughout the day. I take it is spring break or something ? I fueled up when I got here and put in $1,013.38 worth of fuel on. 215 gallons of tractor and 38 gallons of reefer. I'm sure my company is not paying that amount though. 8) 8)
