Dark_reaper go get your cdl if you can pass the test. Driving a tractor trailer is a radically different thing but you at least have the gist. You could rent a truck. I have a suggestion though. Arkansas state university has a training program star transport uses. Stars drivers contract for 5 grand but people who pay cash paid 2200 back in the day. Probably a hair more now. And it is a VERY good school. The guy who runs it said other companies offerered them contracts but wanted them to cut training time and he wouldnt do it. HE wanted to produce good drivers. I'd also contact the companies down there. I'll bet they need exactly what you do.

I've thought about the oilfields myself but it sounds like all the nightmares of otr trucking plus being ripped off left and right by every store and conman in the country.

Thanks cdreid, where I live the closest school is an hour away, and the college one is about a hour and a half away... But I am willing to move to another city or a state cause FL sucks for people that wants to drive... I ultimately want to live in the PNW but I am willing to move wherever I need to go. I will take a look at ASU, and I have already put in for Key Energy. I am willing to run van and reefer for a while cause I would like to see the country for a bit.

Reap,

If I were you, contact one of the staffing agencies up here, there is one in Minot that seems to do good, SOS Staffing

Get an application or resume in with them. I am thinking a guy with your background could be hired at one of the many gas plants up here, no CDL required. They would be your best bet as I do not know who is hiring in those areas currently. Also, check out the ads here The Shopper, Inc. - Williston, ND - Classifieds, Help Wanted, Real Estate and More! I think I saw something in there the other day that might be up your ally.

Also, if there was a way to get your CDL, with your experience (if it is more than say a few years driving), I don't think you would have to difficult a time of getting a driving job up here. And I don't believe that you would need to go OTR, your CDL and experience should be enough. My good friend hadn't driven in five years and I got him a job at my outfit hauling propane.

I spoke with another guy from this board the other day. He was in his 50's, hadn't driven in twenty years (East Coast Bedbugger), but has experience with the HE and driving a fire truck as a volunteer. He had a way to get his CDL, and is just the kind of guy we want and need up here. I have heard of guys with his kind of background getting hired on up here. Allot will depend on how you handle yourself in that first phone interview, and if I was doing the hiring, this guy would be on his way up here as soon as his CDL came through.

I sent you an email with my phone number.

Mike

I have been driving refuelers for over 6 years now, since we are under the FAA, we are not required to have a DCL. The truck I drive daily is technically a "tractor trailer" but fixed as a straight truck, aka around here as Rampmasters, damn good trucks. But I will check out the sites, and will also take a look at the shopper. Since this is a holiday week, things have been a bit crazy around here.

And yeah, I did get your number, things just have been crazy around here.

Hello Mike,
I hope your Independence Day was a good one!

Could you kindly contact me here through the forum? As I am brand-spanking new here, I am unable to PM you. I have some specific questions for you concerning work in the Williston area.

Thank you,
BigSkyRockies

Big Sky,

This site will not allow me to send you a pm, I think you need a bunch of posts or something, pretty stupid...

So, post an email address and I will shoot you my number. I work nights and am normally available from 5 pm to 10 am Central Time.

Mike

On the surface it might seem "stupid" but it does help to keep the spammers down.

Truthfully, nobody wants their inbox filled with links to get the cheapest enlargement pills on the market.
