Appreciate the advice Orangetxguy! I happen to meet all those requirements except I do not have a CDL yet. I do plan on attending school and getting into the tanker side of things. I feel like the pay is better and the respect the drivers recieve really is a big plus. Once I pay my dues and gain my experience, I want to do my best and earn top dollar wages. Who is this Marathon company? Are they top dollar?

LTL doesn't appeal to me.
Being in Memphis, you have a ton of carrier choices to start with. Superior, Miller Transporters, Dupre, and Kenan to name just a few. Superior & Miller for chemical and Kenan or Dupre for fuel or chemical.

So Kenan and Dupre offer employment to newbies?

The last I knew..yes. They prefer to train you "their way". Both are very decent companies. Go to their terminals and talk with the truck bosses. Let them know what you are interested in doing, and ask them questions and for suggestions.

Also.....get their opinions as to which school might be "more beneficial" to your future..... They should be able to tell you at least whom to "avoid".

I think chemical tanker is going to be more my thing rather than fuel hauling into stations. Skywalker, what is the avg. annual salary over at Superior? Also, I talked to the term manager at Memphis awhile back and she said the Memphis terminal is a lil diff than the rest. Not really sure what she meant, but she did say something about some kind of container type tanks? You may know what she was talking about Skywalker?

Memphis has guys who run more locally as well as system drivers. The local guys have sleepers (some of them) as they pull container frames that have chemical containers that they haul back and forth.

Average earnings.....probably 45K to 65K depending on what you are doing and how much time off you take during the year. I'm a system driver and love time off.....and I did very well

..Best OTR jobs ?

Things have changed..

Today the company I work for announced they are lowering the trucks to 66 (down from 68-70) to cut cost...

1900 miles is the best week in 2 months..now they are neutering the rigs..

Oh well,

Now I can seek employment elsewhere with no regrets ...
nothing left to lose by leaving.

I'll admit ..the fast nice trucks had me spoiled rotten..

but then good things never last,

It was the nice fast trucks that drew me to Millis... now thats gone

time to call Schaffer or Kennesaw ...or Crete..or ...or ?

Hmmm

Trucking is still a good job ....

Crete.....I believe they are set to 65....Schaffer, probably the same. Kennesaw maybe faster...but they are team, aren't they?

I can understand why you are looking to leave.....but rather than make "truck speed" a priority.....why not focus on "pay and benefits"? Maybe get your tanker and hazmat and go that route.....pays better, probably better benefits as well.

On the other hand....if you want lots of miles, a fast truck, and aren't that concerned about "money"....get a tanker endorsement and call Bynum or Indian River....
