I agree with Shodows and Von. Both TMC and Maveric are tops in the industry for flatbed work. Never worked for Maverick but from talking to their drivers on the road and at our shippers, they seem like a bunch of talented and genuinely nice people.
As for the new trucks TMC is going to use, my bet's on the Peterbilt 389. ALMOST identical to the 379 with a couple of real improvements. My favorite of which is MUCH brighter headlights. If I go owner/op, I'd look real hard at one of those, they're NICE!

Well Von, ask and you shall recieve.

I have made it very clear of the issues that I had at TMC. I have never worked for and have no ambition to ever work for Maveric. For all I know it may be a good company to start at, but I highly doubt that it would be a company that anyone would want to stay at. Maveric and TMC are basically the same, they are a newbie training company. I am sure that Maveric has the same policy for trainers as all of the other mega training companies, survive 9 months to 1 year at the company without killing anyone and you can be a trainer :roll:

I do find it very funny that all of the TMC fanboy coolies have never worked for any other trucking company. I have no problem admitting that I have been an industry slut, I have worked a total of 6 companies in the 4 years I have been driving. But that experience has given me the knowlege to make a realistic comparison between companies. For me I will never work for another Mega ( larger then 1000 trucks ) training company. I have currently found my personal trucking Nirvana at the company that I am at now. 85 company trucks is large enough for my taste.

For all of you TMC coolies next time you load at IPSCO in Montpelier IA, take a look at the paper work that you sign when you scale out. Pay close attention to the freight rate that is on that paper then go out to tyour truck and look at the qualcom again. :lol: :lol: :lol:

If any of you do go there, more then likely you will see me as I load out of there at least once a week. Funny thing is, I was at 29% at TMC, I am paid 25% at my current job. I haul mainly the same freight but I make more money paid 25%. Explain that Von.


My advice to any newbie. Do your time at one of these training companies. Get your 1 or 2 years in, then dont walk, RUN away and find a good company to work for.

Ipsco is one of those companies that pays freight by the pound/mile. You get paid on the estimated weight when it is entered into the system. The actual weight difference between the inbound and outbound scale is what is paid to TMC. TMC does not adjust the rates after you get the load screen because it would be a labor intensive process and because it wouldn't be right to pay you less than you expected to make on a load when the weight was less than estimated. Whenever you take one less uint of something due to a weight issue do you think the rate stays the same, hmm?

I prefer not to go to Ipsco anyway. I always seem to be two to three hours early for my strictly enforced appointment time. :roll:

The difference between 25% and 29% is in reality only about $150 per week. So if you have found a smart company that never touches really cheap freight then that difference is a wash. TMC does have to handle cheap freight because there are very few drivers who would put up with being laid over for a day to pick up a better paying load on a regular basis.

TMC is a great company. They have treated me well. I make a decent paycheck. I have a great fleet manager who really knows his stuff, and he once stayed after work two and a half hours on a Friday trying to get me out from under an impossible load. (1100 miles from Friday 4pm to monday 6am, with needing at least 34 hours at home along the way) I couldn't ask for more from TMC.
