Hey, I have a good word for Fedex. Just got hired on there today as a package handler. Plan on working my way up to driver. Seems like a good company from what I have heard thus far.

Of course, no company is perfect. By definition, they are all about the bottom line.

But I'm definitely glad to be on board with Fedex.

grovemachine. you are a company employee, what they are talking about is the drivers and home delivery drivers, we are contractors and sub contractors, we do not get any benefits, insurance etc. if you call fed ex to verify my employment you will be told that i am not an employee, i work for the contractor

Not talking about line haul. You guys do pretty well. Talking about the ground package drivers. They are ones getting the shaft. Fedex can do pretty much anything they want to them. If the contractor doesn't like it too bad. Take your contract away and hit the road.

I won't agree that they can do anything they want to them because they can't, but isn't this last statement a big reason why any company utilizes independent contractors? I always understood that an independent contractor could be cut loose much easier than an employee could. Wouldn't an IC know this before they signed on with any company, not just FedEx?

The reason why Fedex Ground P&D drivers are suing is because FEDEX has control over you. Someone made a comment in the earlier post about you signed a contract then you need to abide by the contract. This is easier said than done when Fedex starts to tell you what time you have to pickup your packages at certain times, when I allowed to only repair my truck, if my parents die I cannot go see there funeral. Also the courts are showing that the drives are being treated as employees. FEDEX Ground drivers are no different than an Express driver except we do not get benefit.

For the person that got a job as a package handler good luck in becoming a driver. You will have to find a driver wanting to hire you as a driver then go to FEDEX schooling and if you want to become a contractor you will have to wait one year if you attend there school.

You cannot tell a person: "Buy this particular vehicle-Run this particular route-Pay for all maintenance-Wear my uniforms-Deliver my brand of freight ONLY to MY customers ONLY" and then deny he is an employee. Even the courts thought that was ridiculous.
For starters, who the heck is Brown? Is UPS too hard to spell?

FedEx has not lost every court case, they have successfully defended their choice to use IC's instead of employees on numerous occasions. Don't take my word for it, look it up. I also don't mean to look it up on a law firm website such as the one referenced in this thread. Yeah, that's some unbiased information there, huh?

As I stated earlier, the move was made to create two totally seperate entities. I remember it very well and I also remember several folks from all levels of UPS from corporate leaders to account managers to drivers complaining about it.

There have been a handful of drivers, out of thousands, who have filed suit. My guess is that most are happy with the contract that they signed. They are living up to the terms that they agreed to and FedEx is paying them fairly decently for the services they provide. What's wrong with people living up to a contract that they signed and agreed to in this day and age? I guess folks can just claim ignorance and "woe is me" and a judge somewhere will eventually agree with them.
..this isn't even worth answering....Another who will defend his right to get the shaft, everytime..
