You're darn tootin' they do. Reefer sucks, man. Yeah the length of haul is generally longer, but the BS you have to put up with at grocery whorehouses more than offsets it. Nothing like seeing those smiling faces full of cheer and good tidings to all truckers at Swift/Taylor Farms at 3AM. Then there's oodles of extra stops. Waiting in line at the Streakin' Beacon for washouts. Every load is max weight. Pallet swaps. Don't forget you have to fuel the damn thing every time you drop it (for free, of course). Uggghhhh....

Oh well, at least you'll have plenty of time to polish up your rims/fuel tanks.
LOL , nicely and honestly stated .
That is so much bs . reefer is not that bad. reefer freight does not slow down as much as general freight does. As far as the late night unloads my time at marten i had very few. This is coming from a non union driver

Actually, I'd say he was right on target with the exception of trailer washouts. Marten will fight you tooth and nail to avoid paying for them now. Since they changed the HOS effective 10/1/05, you can have all the reefer work, because I'm done with it!

Everyone delivers at freaky hours, sometimes convience demands it.I mean if everyone delivered at the same time nothing would ever get delivered.

I'd have to look back through my paperwork but I'd say maybe once every 8-10 loads would have an appointment between 22:00 and 05:00 when I was at Marten. I certainly didn't like late night deliveries but most of the time I didn't have much of a problem. If it was a early morning appointment I'd stop at a truckstop then head in close to my appointment time. If it was a late night appointment I'd head right to the customer and more often than not they would unload me early or definitely start by my appointment time and I could still get to a truckstop and get a decent rest.

Most often while unloading late night deliveries I would just got to bed like I would be anyways at a truckstop. It just sucks when you have to get up out of bed when they are done unloading, get your bills and go find a place to park. Probably the worst place I had to deal with was Mclane warehouses. They only take deliveries at night and on most occasions are a pain to deal with.

Delivering at odd hours is not a big deal, you just have to learn how to work the night shift??

If you cross out a company b/c of odd hours why drive a truck.

I guess you could always go pull oversize freight as they can only run during daylight hours for the most part.
