Ya know what? It is all what you make it. Look at this as a stepping stone. Learn all that you can, and do not be afraid to ask for help. I wish that some of you new guys would just say hey out here on the road.

Good luck to you, and happy trails!

That's cheap.

It is this type of attitude that hurts us all out here.

I run across allot of punks out here, you just confirmed that.

Name your company, they all have their good and bad. If you are new to trucking, Swift ain't that bad. In fact, I find their drivers to be some of the most considerate drivers on the road.

And having spoken to a few out here, they know the score.

Like I said, this job is what you make it, no matter who you drive for. And it is not an occupation that many can do, or are willing to do, for any amount of money.

And the money, it will come with time and experience. And Swift is a good place to start for many drivers. They do have the freight, it just takes the right attitude to get it.

This sounds like the guy you'd hear on the CB all the time... :!: When I started with them about 10 yrs ago, it was so bad, I'd just leave my CB off. Seems like it was a lot of MS driver's...lol (how the fates have turned...lol)...My dispatcher was a jr=erk, so I didn't stay very long. They probably have changed alot since then. hopefully...BOL

They do, but the pay stinks. Especially the regional fleets. Most drivers with Werner (myself included) like the company overall, but many are leaving because the pay has not increased to be competitive with the rates other companies are paying. I've been with them about 1 year and 4 months so far and I'm thinking of leaving too. I have a few hurdles making things tougher though (2 minor preventables I acquired in my first 3 months, and a major car accident that occurred over 2 years ago before I had a CDL). I wanted to go work for CFI, but they changed their mind just before I was going out for my road test during their orientation. I ended up going back with Werner. :/

The pay is still a bit low but they've made some good strides in their new pay plan. It looks like they've started a plan to give 5 incremental raises during the first year. Plus, a $500 bonus after your first load. It looks like thay're trying to make things better for the new drivers.

Werner's pay has always been low and will always be low. But, that is not their only problem. They do not give their drivers any miles especially on the regional fleets. I was only getting around 1250 miles per week. I never turned down any loads and I was always on time. My dispatcher and I got along great but still never got any miles.
