Hopefully you didn't have to sit Thats amusing that you both picke up in Dodge at probably real close to the same time. Maine is news to me, he's never been in Maine. He always complains about Ohio's speed limit though

My husband is just barely into New Jersey tonight, and originally would have made the 2nd drop of the load he was carrying tomorrow morning.

TransAm called him this afternoon and asked him to take a load into Brooklyn tomorrow. For some crazy reason that is still beyond me he said yes. So he swapped tonight for a load due in Brooklyn by 3 pm tomorrow. It pays mileage plus $150.

Anybody have any Brooklyn tips? Besides the obvious...don't go...little late for that

I use to drive all over NYC in a truck. It's not as bad as it is made out to be. It is a little intimidating at first but, cars are cars, just a few more of them. The roads are a little rougher. Just tell him to take his time and get in as soon as he can to Brooklyn. One little fender bender and it's backed up forever. Get a good NYC map at one of the rest areas out on the NJ turnpike and study your route to your delivery. He will see alot of low clearance signs such as 12'8" and such, but as long as he is on a major route, 278 BQE, Brooklyn Queens Expwy, he will be fine, even alot of the side road clearances are OK but ALWAYS slow down and make sure you are going to make it under if you are on a side street. He can try to get help on the CB but good luck. Every once in a while you will find a friendly local to help. It's just traffic just like anywhere else, just a little heavier. And like my old boss said to me just before my first trip into the big scary city, "I've never had to go up there and show anybody the way out yet". If he gets lost just don't panic and stay on the main roads and he will find his way. Of course call the consignee also and see if they can be any help as far as routing, good luck on that too. Good luck and let us know how it goes. One final word, as the saying goes, "If I can do it anybody can".

There is no such thing as don't go, it's just another load in another city, but 3pm delivery; now that is a mistake. He really needs to get there by noon to make it on time, also hopefully to be unloaqded early so as to get out of there. If he is not ,leaving by 2:30 then he is there until between 6 and 8 before he is in n.j. or ct. The more he runs the 5 boroughs the more he'll learn the in's and out's. Call and get directions because one wrong turn and it can be the pickle of a lifetime to correct it. I ran to the pt and the boroughs for years but a wrong turn can put you in a real pickle.

Ok, I'm relaxing just a touch. I guess I still have the vision burned forever on my brain of sitting in NYC traffic watching a brokedown car get stripped on one side of the highway, and the police officer on the other side doing nothing.....BUT, I guess that really has very little to do with taking a load in.
His drop time got revised to 10 am, so he's hoping to be in and out before the traffic gets too horrid. The directions seem very simple, and he's blessed I guess that he's delivering less than a mile off the interstate, and barely into NY, not far off the turnpike.
Guess I've gotten spoiled by living in the Bible Belt.

NYC isn't any different then anywhere else. L.A. is bad, Houston is bad, Seattle is bad, SF is bad. If you're gonna be a trucker, it's not that bad.

Except that it is illegal to take a 53' trailer off the interstate network in order to make pickups or deliveries in NYC.

I wouldn't take a 53 footer on some of the streets of Seattle either.

But if they're illegal, there has to be somewhere they drop them off.
