Madii's wife,
Thanks for telling me what you could. I talked to one of my friends that started last month for them. He said his first truck was stock, with no inverter, APU, or anything. After his truck broke down they gave him a Classic that has an APU and 2500 watt inverter. I asked about "out of route" miles because I live 90 miles from some major cities. When I worked (read "slaved") for CR England they would run me CLOSE to home and give me too much time to run the load. So I would route myself by the house, take 2 days at home and still have the load on time legally. My friend says he usually has 2 days down time per week with TransAm. He gets three 1,000 mile runs per week. Regardless, I start my orientation for them on the 9th. Thank you for a well read thread. It was because of you, and the few people I know that work for TA that I have decided to give 'em a shot.

At least with my hubby they route him (and pay him) directly to home. It is forced route, so they do most of the routing work for you, although I would definitely recommend double checking it...as sometimes they're less than smart with it. My husband also started out with basically a stock truck, which he still basically has now even though they switched him, but the shop gave him an inverter, so now he has one, but no APU.

Madii'swife, I noticed in the paper, Coastal Transport is needing local drivers.(home daily job) I dont know if your husband would want to haul fuel, but anyway, they are running an ad. Their yard is over there by Jim's Truck & Trailer.(across from Love's by Windthorst Rd)

My husband isn't against hauling fuel, but they also require uniforms and a clean shaven face, which there is no way he'd do. Their ad (if I remember right) says 2 years experience I think. I saw it yesterday in the paper part that come in the mail on Wednesday, but can't remember for sure. Right now he only has about 4 months experience. We're just trying to figure out whether to go ahead and see if Maverick will take him at his 6 months mark, or wait another 6 months to try for something local that takes the experience. Seems like a lot of the local/regional ones I see here require 2 years though.. Sorry if I'm rambling, I was up til 4 am last night moving a 38 gallon tank because the dresser it was on wasn't strong enough after all.

Wow, have I lost a grip on keeping up with this thread.
It was a crazy last week/beginning of this week for my husband, and for all of us. He brought a load in from GA that delivered in Irvingl, TX. He would have been set to deliver on Saturday morning this last weekend. However, the receiver was closed over Easter and he was told he could not deliver early, and his appt time was for Monday afternoon. Since he had to sit, and he was close to the Rockwall yard they let him drop the truck at Rockwall, and we went and got him Saturday afternoon. It was wonderful to be able to see him for Resurrection Sunday! We took him back Monday morning early, so he could make the drop. Once he made the drop in Irving, they sent him to pick up in the east side of Dallas. When he got there he found out they only ship out from 4-10:30. He was stuck at the shipper until 10, but was supposed to have a 6 am delivery in Oklahoma the next morning. Only catch is he made a mistake and thought the delivery was for this morning (wednesday) not for yesterday. Night dispatch called him at 3 am to find out what was going on. He told them he looked at the time wrong. Well, instead of counting that as notification he wouldn't be able to deliver the load on time apparantly night dispatch just noted that he said he looked at it wrong, so he now has a write up for not delivering a load on time. His FM told him her hands were tied once he told night dispatch that he misread the delivery. They took that load from him, swapped him out with another driver, and sent him back down to Fort Worth to pick up a different load. He's currently taking that load to Colorado where he delivers tomorrow morning. Other than his horrible day Monday, its been going wonderful. This last paycheck had over 3900 miles on it, for a slightly over $1000 net check, but it was actually for 9 days because of how the trip paks fell. Seems to be a pattern with his checks. Any checks that include hometime are smaller (around 1500-2000 miles, $500-550 net), the rest are over 3000 miles.

Tonight finds my husband in PA. He has a load he drops in Hagerstown, MD early tomorrow morning, and then 2 more drops on this run. He started in Dodge City, KS, so not a bad run. The shipper in KS kept him waiting over 34 hours, and has made him to where he will be late delivering to the first drop on this load. It's been a slower time since Easter weekend, so its good to know he's running good and hard again.
