We have numerous newsprint accounts, one usually brings in a long box and three pups. but lately we might get a couple pups of it. We lost one account that brought about 3 pups a day in. Why? I think its cause of rates we have. Not to mention the last salesman was a slacker. The new guy is "Gung Ho" but hasn't picked up yet.

Yep its Donnelly.

I agree on the rate hikes; It seems like we are being a bit aggressive on trying to hike rates and loosing business because of it. Then again I'm not the CEO or head of sales, so its not my call to make.

This is very true. Our salesman said that he is working very hard at getting the accounts back that we lost BUT most of them signed a contract for a year with another carrier. So it looks as if its gonna be this way for a while. I actually got a run last night. First one in a week. Probably last one for another week, who knows. Right now its very unstable in my opinion. I think it will be a long while before it picks up around here.

I worked for Con-way and at USE things were slow and still slow. I went else were and am very happy with the move I made. Don't get me wrong Con-way is a good company. I was just offerd a better Carrer.

Working for Con-Way has a Jekyll & Hyde aspect to it.

Being on the extra board sucks. The last two guys hired both left after getting jack for hours.

I hated having to work graves 1/2 the week and days the rest. I was written up for refusing to come in after having not slept for 20 hrs. I was just about ready to quit

I got lucky about two months ago one of the guys on outbound dock left to go work for FedEx and no one wanted his bid; as the least senior regular guy I defaulted into it.

Now with my start time on outbound its a great job. I do a mix of dock work, P&D and the odd line run when we're are short drivers. A bad week is 36 hrs, a good week is 50-60.

Take what the salesfolk say with a grain of salt. Being a serial optimist is a job requirement.

Bummer.

I some states if your hours drop below a certain amount you can collect unemployment for the week. I know if that happened in NV you could.

Well went to check out UPS, they do hire feeders drivers off the street and they are now hiring..... the catch: 3 years experience of "all season weather" pulling doubles. I fell short on that, only been with Conway for 6 months pulling doubles. I went to Roadway after leaving UPS, filled out the book (application) and got a call the next day for an interview. Went to the interview and went well and they scheduled me for a road test on Tuesday this week. So I guess I will see what happens this next week.

Hard to decide, bail on Conway? or go for a road job with Roadway?
