I know Maverick does a lot of regional runs but does anyone know anything about their longhaul division? Is this like coast to coast stuff or what?

yes it is coast to coast with usually 2 weeks out.

Sweet that is the kind of trucking that I LOVE. I had an awesome time training because we ran team coast to coast. That makes me even more excited about going to Maverick. I hope they do a lot of west coast/northwest cus that is my favorite area to go to. I like to stay out 4-5 weeks, then take a few off. I don't like to me home often. The truck is my home!

I'm sure they'll set you right up. LNG offers home every other weekend, but you don't have to go home then. I knew one guy there who was divorced and part of the deal was they sold their home so he literally lived out of his truck. He had a few daughters spread around the country (1 in Atlanta, 1 in Illinois and I think 1 in TX). About once a month he would just tell them to land him in Atlanta or wherever for his hometime and he would spend a few days with his daughters. He loved it, said he saw more of his family than he had in his previous job because he just didn't get the chance to travel much.

Not saying that you'll be in Cali every other week because in my experience they just don't run out there that much. They will keep you rolling though and it will work out well for them if they know, hey we gotta get him to TX in 3 weeks, but he doesn't have to be anywhere in particular in the next 2 weeks. It's a lot easier for them than having to route 1000 drivers home each weekend.

As usual, I can't add much to Redsfan's comments. He knows Maverick as well as anyone. The one thing that he touched on that I'll elaborate on is that it's nice to put in a request to be in a certain location for your weeknd and they will normally get you there. In fact it's one of the things they score themselves on in the load planning dept. I've seen it on the board. They track special requests and their success % just like they track how many of the drivers were home for the weekend. They are serious about both! I know of 2 or 3 trainers that actually requested to be in Talladegah, Al for the Nascar race last year. Maverick routed all of them there for the weekend. The trainers and their students got to watch the race.

I'm trying to decide between Maverick and TMC. Both look real good and most of my questions have been answered.

With Maverick's cpm, I'm assuming you only get paid for loaded miles, right?

With TMC's compensation being a percentage of the load, obviously there is no pay for unloaded miles.

Does either company restrict you from idling? Does either have apu's or allow inverters?

No, Maverick will pay you the same for both loaded and empty. Of course, your bounces will be as short as possible. Occasionally, you won't get something just right up the street. I had a couple of 100-150 mile bounces, but I was paid for those miles also. Honestly, I don't think that there are too many companies out there anymore that don't pay deadhead.

My understanding with TMC is that the bounce is not that big of an issue with them either. It sounds to me like they keep the empty miles down to a minimum also.

Maverick doesn't really restrict you from idling. They offer a fairly lucrative fuel mileage bonus and, of course, limiting your idling will help you acheive this.

When I was there they were testing out some APU's. I don't know how far along this has come. They will allow inverters, but they have to install it. Not a big deal, take your inverter in when you get an oil change, etc and they'll install it then. I never used one personally, had a 12V TV and cooler and that was all I really needed.

NOT true, TMC will pay for empty miles if your bounce (empty run) is over 150 miles. I RARELY had long bounces anyway so it was a non-issue for me and I usually got reloads in 15-20 minutes.
TMC ASKS that you idle as little as you can but doesn't restrict it. My idle percentage was 38% when I ran OTR for them. As far as apu's and inverters, we currently have neither but are looking at and testing both.
