I have to say that I am glad that I got to train with someone. I didn't realize how much work goes into load securement. I thought that you can just drop it on the bed, throw a couple of straps/chains and go down the road. Boy was I wrong. TMC not only wants you to secure by what the federal law say but they also want the load extra secured. This will save your life or anothers and keep stuff from falling off of the truck. I learned alot from my trainer and I will learn even more on my own.

One more thing.....when you goto Des Moines take a bathing suit and your laptop. The Baymont Inn that TMC owns has 1 indoor (warm) pool, 2 hot tubs, a steam room, 802.11G wifi and a game room with pool tables. The restaraunt at TMC is only open for lunch so plan to order in or eat vending machine food. (hot pockets, stew, and junk food) Ask for a rent car to get you there and see who you can pick up along the way.
I am cureently located in Minneapolis can we drive personal vehicles down for oreintation? Is there a secure lot for personal vehicles?

I was under the impression TMC drivers would pretty good drivers.........must only be the one's on here that are good, tcurr, joker, cable and von se
Little log problem thing with the DOT a while back. Maybe they are after us!

Yeah maybe Von, I'm not saying TMC is bad, just found it odd that they were suddenly getting pulled an awful lot here.

No really, they got chewed up pretty good by the DOT for the drivers logbooks. Maybe the DOT is all over it.

dont know about you guys but i just got done with my 3rd week on the road solo and about had a meltdown. this is a different ball game when you dont have someone telling you what to do or where to turn and stuff like that. all i can say is be ready and if you have laptops (which i think most of you have) use them have a good mapping program handy. i really dont want to go in to enormous detail about my experiances thus far but i am just having a hard time. it is not all peaches and cream out there. i am just going to stick things out and pray things get better cause it really cant get any worse for me at the moment.

John c there are those weeks. I had one this week. Everything that could go wrong did. I will give you just monday. Got unloaded at 715 in Ill. Wait 2.5 hours for a load that goes to alabama. 2.5 hour bounce to the steel warehouse from hell. Takes 4.5 hours to get loaded and do not get to deliver tell about 2pm next day and only load available is a 2 day run to baltimore MD and deleware.

Some weeks suck and frankly it just seems to get worse. As far as mapping software I use a garmin 2720 gps and it helps emesly but you will get into big cities and there is nothing that takes away the fear your on ther wrong road a non truck route etc.

Confidence helps this alot give it a bit but you will always have those weeks. Hell I go to the heart of chicago for monday for a two stop delivery only saving grace was I got home thrusday night,.

Shoot me a pm and I can give you my Phone number can try to help if you have any questions etc when out there.
