Harry was a class act on the track. Used to be called, Mr. September because he always seemed to sweep the races in September. He always brought his best out on the short tracks, under 1 mile. Still remember his spin to win at Richmond. Got spun out late in the race while leading, stood on the gas and gathered it back up after doing a 360 and never lost the lead. Went on to win. Or his battle from a few laps down at Martinsville after Rusty wrecked him. Front end was torn off and he still roared back from 2 or 3 laps with half the race left to win. After the race he said, "Since they couldn't outrun me today, they tried wrecking me and that didn't work either."

Ol' Handsome Harry was a good one. He would work all week as a carpenter then go race on the weekend. Someone asked him recently at his home in Taylorsville, NC if he had been back since his retirement to a Nascar race. He gave another good qoute that was so true, "Heavens no I haven't been back. Have you seen the amount of people at these races now? Traffic is terrible, why would I want to spend time sitting in that when I can sit here at home on my front porch in my rocking chair and watch the races?"
