I should have no problem getting a load out of VA back to either Mass or NH then I'm taking a week or two off. I think I'll have been out 6 or 7 weeks by the time I get home. After I pull a load and invoice I put the copy in my laptop case. My laptop won't fit in there anymore. There's too many invoices.

Not much to do when I get home this time other than a PM and maybe some drive tires but they still look ok so maybe not. I'm going to go over to the scales and let my local DOT people give it the once over. I think that's one nice thing about NH is if you pull in and ask for help you get help instead of a ticket if something is wrong.

I got pulled into the scales when empty heading in here. Both the DOT inspectors came out and looked at the plate on my trailer and truck. They said they had never seen vanity plates on a commercial truck before. I asked them for a sticker and they laughed and walked away.

So probably another week before I get home. I like to order DVD's from Walmart so I should have a good collection to watch when I get home.

60" plasma TV, big huge Lazy Boy, shots of Tequila and Chinese food here I come!!! I LOVE LIVING ALONE!!!

What part of Virginia ya heading into?

10-05-2007 06:59 PM

Heading to Hartford NC first then Richmond VA. I loaded up here in Lovell WY at Haliburton. Those people are all over the place! Only drove a little ways yesterday and shut down out in the middle of nowhere.

Already hit 2 10% grades and I'm maxed out. 5th gear all the way down. I did a little experiment before starting down. I started off in 1st gear and still had to stab the brake so the theory about 1 gear less than what you went up in is BS. I went up in 6th gear. I think there is a certain point where a grade is so steep it doesn't matter what gear your in, you will be stabbing all the way down.

allan5oh 10-05-2007 07:49 PM

Also, when you're going slower there's obviously a lot less wind resistance.

If you think about it, then an aerodynamic truck has to go slower then a big wind catcher(downhill).

10-05-2007 10:21 PM

That's true. My point is though, there was no gear that would hold back an 80,000 pound truck going down a steep grade. I've also tried this on 6% grades with the same result.

Nice pics Steve, cant tell there's a windshield there in most of them. Must get that squeegee off the running board every once in awhile huh! Ever hear anything from that dispatch service?

10-06-2007 01:17 AM

The windshield I had put in last year and I paid $200 more than the regular ones. I forget what it's called but it was WELL WORTH the money. When I clean it, it's like there's nothing there. It's a special process to put it in also and requires some kind of electric device. I don't remember all the details but I would have the same one put in again. Never any scratches or pits.

This morning I went through snow, sleet, hail, high winds then wicked down pours of rain. All the driving schools should have got there students out this morning and could have experienced everything within 150 miles.

I didn't hear anything from the dispatch service until a week and a half later when I called during normal business hours and got a voice message that they were not there!! What kind of dispatch service runs out during the day and doesn't answer the phone nor do they return your phone calls. I left a good message for the bimbo sisters. Then, all of a sudden they seem to have my email address which all of a sudden works!!!

I put www.personaldispatcher.com in the same class as the other 3 I called who did absolutely nothing and dropped the ball.

After leaving the voice mail I got this response. Miraculously after my email address turned up a week and a half later. Ya, big surprise.

=============================================

Dear Mr. Booth,

First of all I would like to let you know that I have been out of work for a week due to a death.

I returned to work today and received your message. It was very lovely and I want to thank you for it. It is amazing to me that with my experience in people not receiving emails, faxes, phone messages, etc. That you could be so quick to judge someone by assuming that you were ignored rather than give someone the benefit of the doubt.

In regards to the emails, I have no idea what happened. We did not get them. Second, I had been watching the fax machine for "one shot steve", however, I never saw that packet come thru. When this packet came thru on Monday, I did call and leave you a message, I also gave you an 888 number to call, due to the fact that I thought I was going to have to leave town. The 888 number I left you was also on the top of the packet that you sent over. Then Tuesday morning I did end up having to leave. It is unfortunate that you didn't call the 888 number that was at the top of the packet. As the number gives many options of people to speak with.

I am sure you will be much happier finding loads on your own and I am sorry that we didn't live up to your expectations. The bright side is that we are very overwhelmed with customers who think they couldn't live without our service.

Have a great day.

This is my response to that email which also includes the email I sent them over 2 months ago that they said they would reply to within 24 hours!!!

On top of dropping the ball both you and your sister lie also. You
did not leave me a message. There was no message on my answering
machine or an attempt that would have shown up in my caller ID.

I was very exact with my paper work that was faxed to you along
with a contact number, contact email and contact fax number all
of which you never attempted to use other than to send me this email
trying to explain why you screwed up...which, was a lie.

If the phone numbers on your web page are no good then don't post
them. DUH!!!

If your email addresses are not read or answered then don't post
them. DUH!!!

The email I sent you months ago was received by you. That's why
you sent an automatic reply!!!! DUH.

The first rule in a company is to have your ass covered when your
away instead of voice mail or automatic email response.

You obviously got my packet and DID NOTHING. You said you called but
I know that's a lie. Even if you did, any air head would have followed up
the next day and the next trying both the CORRECT number that was faxed to them, EMAIL which you ALSO had and did nothing or a FAX which you were also given!!!

Do a Google search on your company name "Personal Dispather" in the future. I belong to one of the most widely read forums on trucking and plan to post my experience with your company.

Here is the reply I got from you emails to both you and your sister in
case your interested.

24 hours my ass

Stabbing in like getting your speed 5 mph under what you want over and over? I will read that chapter again.

Wow, your response to them was very professional, Steve. It sounds like a third grader wrote it. It should come as little surprise though. With an attitude like you have towards potential business colleagues, it's no wonder you are still hauling cheap freight.

Yes. After 5mph over then hit the brakes until 5mph under.

I was in MacDonald's a few months ago in Florida and I got a coffee. I went to pay and she said it was free. I asked, is some promotion going on? She said no, senior citizen. OH MAN

I have a 2005 Road King FLHR, black, hard cases. Been riding also since I was maybe 15. First bike was a Bridgestone 60cc. Raced motocross in the 70's on a RM250. Made it to amature but couldn't get to expert. #901

Stopped for the day in Rapid City North Dakota at the Flying J. Nice place, clean and a great buffet. These truck stops vary sooooo much in quality from one to the other. This one even has it's own bar and casino. $3.25 per gallon for fuel!!! Once again I can only have 1/2 tanks as I'm maxed out with that drilling mud stuff. Doesn't matter though, I can't drive enough in one day to use close to 1/2 a tank.
