New York doesn't have fixed scales, do they? I've never seen one. I thought they only set up roving locations. If so, PrePass won't do you any good.

New York does have some scales, but they are rarely open. They seem to prefer setting up in rest areas.

Hmmm....you may be right about the pre-pass beinng of little value. I kinda thought it may help in the rest areas too. Maybe I should ask them.

Dropped off my coiled wire in New Mexico then got a short haul to the oil refinery out in the desert. It was a load of scaffolding. Took no time to latch down, 165 miles and $600. Pretty easy day for sure.

After that I got a load the next day pretty much right off the bat. It was a load of lumber going to San Diego California. I picked up on the Apache Indian Reservation. When I went inside they had Apache rock and roll playing on the CD player. It was pretty cool and they were talking in Apache also.

I asked them if they saw the movie Wind Talkers and could they understand the language. They said they weren't Apache's and looked like they were pissed that I even mentioned it. Sort of like not knowing the difference between Vietnamese and Taiwanese and they get all bent out of shape if you even think they look like the other.

So off I go loaded to the max at 79,800 pounds and of course I had to tarp the load even though the weather was forecast to be clear for the next 10 days from New Mexico to California.

The road through Arizona was intense with 7% plus grades going up and down for hours through the mountains. So, I'm going along about 15mph up the mountain then all of a sudden I hard this huge bang and the whole truck shakes. I thought for sure I broke a brake or brake drum or the frame of my truck cracked. I notice the people in back of me have stopped so I do also. There are rocks all over the road. One of the people in back saw a rock the size of a Volkswagen falling from like 2000 feet above. It hit the side of the mountain and broke. Another piece fell and hit the side of the mountain again right next to my truck then took a 90 degree turn into my muffler and muffler shroud.

My muffler is toast and so isn't the shroud but I consider myself lucky. Not a single scratch any place else. If it would have hit my hood it would have totaled the hood and probably the engine. I already ordered all the parts and it's going to cost $600 to fix. $200 for the muffler and $400 for the Western Star chrome shroud. The shroud is pretty big on my truck. Looks cool though.

So, on my way and everything OK except I'm a little bit louder than I was before. Down some killer grades with the jake on full, 4th gear and the engine fan and A/C on trying to hold it back. Stabbing at the brakes every 5 seconds then I see smoke for the first time in my life. I've been watching like a hawk the whole time. I pull off real quick as soon as I can while I still have good brakes. It's real hard to see but there is smoke coming from the shoes so I sit for an hour and head back out and everything goes well. This time I gear down to 3rd and the jake and everything else is almost holding.

I make it down to the flats and pull into a truckstop out in the middle of nowhere. I get out of the truck and could hardly breath it was so hot. I'm guessing it was over 110. This was the hottest I've ever been in. It was so hot I was sweating laying on my bed with the A/C on full blast. I woke up in the morning and it was OK in the truck but still hot outside.

So off I go and make it into San Diego which wasn't bad at all. The place I delivered to was right off the highway and easy to get in and out of. The fork lift guy helped me with my straps and folding the tarp too!!!

Back into my truck and look at my Truck Stop Directory and head to the Acorn Casino in Campo CA which is 37 miles from where I am. Really nice place with fuel, showers, great food and pretty much everything is perfect. On top of that I won $100 in the slots.

Posted my truck for the next day and got a call pretty quick this morning. Back into San Diego to pick up 48,000 pounds of fertilizer. These were 14 pallets with one huge bag on each pallet. Took like 10 minutes to load and 10 minutes to strap and I was on my way. Once again, right off the highway. After I left the place the entry ramp to the highway had a flatbed on the side of the road and a fire hydrant gushing water 100 feet into the air. He ran over it. I couldn't believe it. The right hand turn had tons of room and it's almost like he did it on purpose?????

So anyways, back onto the highway and back at the casino again for the night. I have 1,000 miles to go this weekend and deliver on Monday so this is cool. Just had dinner inside and won $50 at the slots!!! Had dinner with some 300 year old lady from the Fillapeans (can't spell it). The restaurant was full and she was waiting so I went up and asked if she wanted to eat with me.

She asks about my wife and I tell her I've been single for over 15 years. She wants me to get a woman. I ask her where her husband is. She said he died 20 years ago. I say, what the HELL, your giving me crap and you've been single longer than me. Lots of laughs with this lady. She's playing the $25.00 slots $75.00 a whack!!!!!

So that's my big excitement for the week. Off to Colorado in the morning then make my way back home via the round about way I guess.

Ok. I've been reading your stuff for awhile now. All I got to say is you gotta be making this stuff up. The picture of your truck and all, well you go to great lengths here to convince us you're real. I could enumerate. But a rain of giant boulders, hmm. That one's the best.

Just kidding!!!!!!!!

That's the trouble with stardom. Always have to do outdo yourself. :)

Just one giant boulder, don't exaggerate now!!! That was it for the road also, I was the only one who could continue on until the DPW could clear off the rocks. If that big one hit me in the same place I'm sure it would have knocked me off the road.

It's been a topic of interest to many truckers walking by my truck wondering how I got the damage. I'll take a picture later and post it. You can't figure out how it happened. Looks like the Jolly Green Giant hit it with a big hammer from the side in one spot.

I'm actually heading back over that same road today!!!
