hobo i dont know how to multi quote your post so i'll number them in what was said.

I don't either. I think there's a "muti-quote" button, but I never use it. What I do is very simple, and I've explained it before. I'll do it again if you really want to do it MY way. It's very simple and useful.

1. i should have explained better. the "city" columbia was a heavy spec electric company truck. it had 46k rears, and a 6 speed auto. it was a day cab. (no CLUE why i labled it like that... lol)

Okay, I think I understand. What you need to remember is that I am a cross-country, long-haul team driver. That's pretty much all I've ever done (or wanted to do.) My mind doesn't make room for "local" job considerations. My mistake... sorry.

2. when i had to back in the auto i used for the day.. thank goodness the docks were on a hill. just rolled it in and hit the dock.

You were lucky. One night in Florida, an old(er) woman was at one of our "smartposts" with a 53 footer and an AUTO truck (don't remember the company.) She begged me to back it into the dock for her because her glasses were broken. I hadn't backed into a dock in over 3 years... and NEVER with an autoshift! I'll spare you the ugly details, but I got it IN there! I refused her offer to PAY me for doing it.

3. i'm confused with the snoopy and bullwinkle?
|
Well, I wasn't going to TELL you but... I thought you were talking about making a "glider" PLANE out of it! Anyways, my brother (who has a bizarre sense of humor) dubbed the 387 as a "snoopy" because, looking at it from the front, it has a BIG head. The 378, has a narrow snout and big ears... hence.... Bullwinkle! Really! LOOK at them sometime!

4. i can see myself being found in the truck with a broken neck falling from the top bunk. dont worry i'm sure my neck will snap on the way down... lol

NOT if the truck is parked! That's why I asked whether you were solo or team.

5. after i said that i realised what i said. the other auto i'm thinking about had the clutch and i'm guessing its defeting the purpous of the auto..

An AUTO with a clutch? Okay... now I'm even more confused. But, I ALSO misspoke when saying I had to "paddle" the freightliner auto I drove one time. As I remember it, I could switch from auto to "semi-auto" requiring me to paddle shift it. I chose that option and I HATED it! I doubt I would have liked the FULL auto choice any better.
Have I made it clear that I HATE the thought (or reality) of an auto tranny in a truck? They tend to "enable" and produce STEERINGWHEEL HOLDERS! My brother used to "joke" that he could talk on the phone (with me) while eating a hotdog and driving his truck! His WIFE loved it! Need I say more and get myself in trouble?
If you can't shift/float gears, and back into a dock or parking spot at a peelot, (unless you have a KNEE problem).... you ain't DRIVING a truck!
Ah Heck! I know I've pizzed someone off now. Dagnabbit! I ain't no Billy Big Rigger... but, I have certain MINIMUM requirements for being a "Truck Driver!"
My MOTHER can drive an "auto" shift car! But, I don't want to see her in a big Rig!
.... rant off....
