I know he had some trouble at the end, and I can't remember exactly what happened, but I miss his stories. Sure were interesting.

He shot me an email last night, so I'm copying/pasting it verbatim:

To all you CAD weenies.

Steve is alive and doing well. Nothing happened to me when I stopped trucking
other then my old job really needed me back to help out. I've put lots of goodies
into my truck including a recent 15,000 btu home A/C cut into the back of my cab
for more cooling.

I've been hauling on the weekends for a shipper doing 300 mile runs delivering bagged
mulch and potting soil to Home Depot and Lowe's.

I'm hoping to get back out on the road full time in the next month or two trying to
finish up here in the lab. They want me to stay but would rather be behind the wheel.

I've been posting over on Let's Truck - Home of Trucking Business & Beyond. Much more open forum and works
a lot better. There is no banning and their approach is to just move the post to a BattleBot
discussion. Take note CAD !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not much of a contributor, but I've been around awhile. I lurked for quite awhile before I joined in '04. I've seen lots of good threads come and go. Lots of the same questions, lots of the same answers. If people would just do a search, there would rarely be any new threads. But what fun would that be?

I'm not original, but was interested in trucking and got my cdl back in 2008. My dad got his CDL a little before me, bought a truck, trailer, started his company, and got his authority. He's been at it a little over two years now. He's hauling flatbed freight and doing well, for example this week he'll gross nearly $10k. His truck has had some problems one cylinder and a rebuilt head, lots of tires, suspension components, trailer wiring, etc. DOT Inspection fines, 800lbs over weight once, one speeding ticket, and other misc fines. All in all he is doing very good and truck is running great. He is home nearly every weekend and has a good load planner and does not factor as he did for the first few months. Insurance costs really came after the first year. He bought a used truck and trailer which will both be paid for in two months. Yes, it can be done. Why work for someone else who will pay $0.20/mile when you can make so much more working for yourself? Of course you need the cash to pay for the breakdowns, and costs, and the fuel until your receivables start coming in. He has only been burned once on a receivable and it was less than $1000.

I remember you very well.I remember when you started on here with a long thread. Some people tried to hammer you just like thery hammered Steve Booth.Since this site is dead as a doornail, you tried to revive it .Good try!
You guys started out into the "real world" before I did. When you guys got your MC, I was making a transition from Landstar.I am glad your Dad is hanging in there.Sorry to hear about the engine rebuild. They need more guys like you to revive this dead board. You were one of the "new pioneers".I am glad you came around.
"I want my authority, I want my authority, I want my authority"............the newbies keep flocking in here with the same old questions.I hope you stick around and tell them the "tell tale stories" from your dad.I know you use to tell those stories.

He Charged. I remember you. Like Henboy said. Anyone that tries to be in business for themselves gets hammered on this site. Are you still driving the bus? some of those kids have hot mama's.

I remember that Rev character. He was an *******, and a terrible mod. I'm glad he's gone. He contributed nothing to the site of value.

Not sure if i count as original but i have been around since late 2005 or so. Got banned once when an over zealous moderator similarly named to our current Rev. was a moderator. He didnt take to kindly to people arguing or talking back to him. He was smarter than everybody back then. Very much like out current board member Rev.

Poor baby. Would you like a hug?

I'd love to say I remember you, but I don't. Sorry.

It sounds like your dad has had some bumps along the way but is doing well. I am curious as to what he was hauling that grossed him $10,000 in a week?
