Maybe you already have. You could have touched someones life and will never know it. We all have a mission in life, we just don't know when it's completed. As the saying goes: Hang in there baby! We are all here at this time for a reason.

You never know who's life you may touch along the way. Just a passing word could change someones life. You may never know what impact you may have already had on another individual. I do think that we are here for a purpose.

Nah, I haven't always been a trucker, didn't get my CDL until I was 32. I could be doing this when I'm 70, or I could be done even now. I just don't know.

I managed to take care of my batteries all winter long, I've had my tractor, pump and air compressor running this spring. But then, something happened, and now I can't get the truck started. I'll probably monkey with the batteries again tomorrow, maybe take them in for a load test. Got to get it started whether I drive it or sell it. There was one guy who called earlier looking for owner operators, I guess we'll just see.

You may want to check your cables. I had one that was slightly loose and the truck would not start. I checked the tightness almost as an after thought. It is a good thing. All I needed to do is tighten the cable and start the truck. I almost called road service. By checking I saved the cost and got me moving.

Regardless, I appreciate hearing about your friend. I once talked to a driver, said he'd been in the business 30 years, himself. Said he had totalled 3 trucks during that time. Oy vey! That takes some stones to get back in the saddle that many times.
You never, ever give up. I can't believe one guy totaled 3 trucks during his career. Watching someone continue to get up and knock off the dust can be an inspiration in itself. In any case, you never allow life to get the best of you. We all have our ups and downs. How we handle those ups and downs is more important than success or failure. If we continue to try we will be successful. Success doesn't necessarily mean that you have monetary riches. We all must define what success means to us. Those who strive to be the best are successful. They could strive to be the best father, teacher or businessman. If you are looking for a purpose you will stand a better chance of finding it by doing something. You may run into a great opportunity through someone you may meet along the way.

Whether you decide to lease your truck to a carrier or be a company driver, finding the right fit can be a trial and error proposition. There is nothing wrong with either. I do some of my best thinking while driving.

I was just about to sign for 2 more units, but I'm not so sure. I have good contacts, good drivers, so I don't know what I want to do; right now it's somewhat easy. Working from home is not all that it's all cracked out to be though. To be honest I'm bored. That about sums it up; I'm bored.

Starting to feel like I want to move on to something else, while I maintain these trucks (pays the bills anyway)
So I did a good job in bringing back the old timers who kept this board alive, but then again the newbies are still missing.Where are they?Did their dreams come true?

I appreciate the encouragement, fellas. Maybe there are other former posters we can draw out of the woodwork. Who is out there lurking but just not posting?

I used to be real bad about logs till I started heavy hauling. Took about two days, and two tickets, to figure out that having to stop at every scale everything had to be up to snuff as you were a stopped target

I am still running my million plus mile truck. just after my inframe, I got a stroke of good luck after bad luck. had to take truck back to shop to work out a couple bug's in engine. then for the first time I was asked to work sat for special loads needed. pulled 9 loads in 4 day's for $3229 to the truck & for the 3 weeks after inframe total $8365.00 to the truck & not one week was a full week. one week I only worked 3 days. just doing local runs until 20-30 thousand on engine & make sure it is broke in & no problems. I have a few more things to do to truck, but don't have to have done right now. our co. has a meeting on the csa 2010 that all of us must attend. will be in 2 weeks. I don't know how this will affect me.

have heard rumors that this law will remove estimated 175,000 drivers from the road. what will that do for rates? for major carriers? for me ? I don't know. I have everything I need to stay in this business. but I have to like doing what I am doing, or else I will leave it. hauling heavy single coils. 300 mile radius & it is working well. home every day. have virtually no expenses & will continue on other interests, while trucking. not interested in getting own authority or buying anymore trucks. buying more real estate, so if trucking does not appeal to me in the near future, I will stay home & still make a living.

I hope things work out. things were so much better 10 years ago. nothing ever stays good for long. if it does I feel blessed. different loads, different locations, co's, dispatchers, rate cutters, it is ever changing. I hate change's. I guess that's why I am still driving the same truck I started out in. I love challenges but don't like the aggravation. was taking a few good paying loads a while back out of wise alloy to toledo oh ( rec 24hrs) then short deadhead to delta oh to load right back to 2 blocks from house. then the co had new rule. all loads had to be on covered wagon. NO tarps.

my dispatcher said I need to get a covered wagon. I needed time to think about it. I decided no. 3 weeks later the co, knocked every one off the available carrier list except for 2 or 3. good thing I did not buy the covered wagon. things like that get me. but it is how the game goes. I am always ready for any change's, I just can't seem to like them.

I am glad to hear folks here remember us. I would like to think I have contributed positively to this board as I know I have benefited from it's valuable info from the members here.

Yeah tell me about it. I know crossing the NY/ON border 8 times a week you darn well have your $tuff together. The DOT and state troopers are there all day every day and they get to know you real quick.

TruckerChris (formerly kona911) here...

Just running up and down I-5 from Portland to Oxnard, Salinas, 99 corridor and Yuma. Got a nice new gig working for the type of company that I've always wanted. Less than 150 trucks, everyone is like family and good pay. I still have my pete and will hopefully be getting a trailer here in the next year. If you're on i-5 look for me in this:

Chris

That's all good to hear! That might be the most beautiful corridor in the country. Mountains, plains, desert...pretty cool.
