Rev Now I will be serious, if possible. I have owned other APU's and they try and cram too much into them and use very expensive controllers. From my own trial and error the only way to go is separate generator, AC(roof mounts cool best) heater and battery charger. With a 110 volt batter charger you don't need a Alt on the APU. One circuit board in the ComfortPro cost $1000 and the idiots don't know how to install the unit properly. mine lost freon many times and the guy that designed the unit worked on it himself. I was not impressed.
Belt driven generator require more maint., the belt has to be kept tight because of the strain when a load is first applied, they are popular because they can be mounted with less open frame space, they are shorter. direct drive is best if it will fit. The circuit board cost $1000 to do the same thing as the ceiling panel on a roof mount. I bought a new ceiling control with fan control and thermostat for $75 at a camping world in Knoxville and installed myself in a few minutes, better than paying $100 a hour to idiots that dont know their own product Good luck and check out Powertech in flordia, they know their stuff. http://powertech-gen.com/

The roof mount AC units can take some abuse, they are reliable and powerful. Today I left mine on while I went for parts, and it was 63 degrees when I got back,....that is damn cold.
Belt drive is more maint. but do what I did and put a spring loaded idler pulley in the mix and no more belt problems. Like I said, this is my last attempt at screwing with this A-Trans unit, I don't have much faith in it,...so after tomorrow I'll see how it runs.

I was looking at generators online today, and I keep having marine generators pop up. I know they are designed to use lake water to cool them, but would it be possible to put a radiator on something like that, and run coolant through it? The reason I ask is because the marine generators seemed like they were a little smaller in size. I could fit a 6kW, 2 cyl Kubota marine generator in the box I already have built, with plenty of room to spare for a radiator.

As if it wasn't bad enough that I tried to burn my truck to the ground (twice), today my A/C went out in the truck. Thank goodness I have the window A/C, and the receiver I'm at has an outlet for me to use.
It was hell driving today. |
