Tryin to find some more info from drivers who may know something about Malone I have been looking at their website and it sounds pretty good. Any opinions????

Is that a real average that they have posted? It seems that 1.77 pm + fsc is pretty good for being leased to a company. Are they an overall good company to run for? Why only 3 years? :?: :shock:

I am just a company driver at the moment, but I have been interested in owning my own truck for the last couple of years. (with or without my co-driver if you read my other post).

But back to the point, from what I can tell this is a damn good rate for being leased, and according to some of the rates people here are quoting it's about as good as running my own authority.

The figure you quoted was "gross" numbers. Gross means before they get their cut. The owner operator will get 75% of the gross plus 100% of the fsc. When I leased to them one truck averaged $1.81 and the other $1.66, if I remember correctly. That was truck money. I ran my own authority before leasing to them. I went to work for another carrier when I got hurt. I broke my back and both wrists when I fell from the top of one of my trailers. The only trucks I owned at the time were car haulers. With a broken back I could no longer continue to haul cars under my authority so I leased a truck to Landstar. Later, I went with CRST Malone. Since I was getting most of my own loads anyway, I went back to running my own authority when I got my money built back up. I tend to be more proactive when it comes to finding my own loads. CRST Malone has a dispatcher assigned to every owner operator, but I did a little better finding my own loads. CRST Malone has agents across the country. Rates vary with each agent.

I went back to running my own authority when I got my money built back up.

I have enough money to get a truck but i don't think I have enough to run my own authority without factoring. So I thought I would lease to a good company until I could get some capital built up then run on my own.

Since I was getting most of my own loads anyway, I went back to running my own authority when I got my money built back up. I tend to be more proactive when it comes to finding my own loads. CRST Malone has a dispatcher assigned to every owner operator, but I did a little better finding my own loads. CRST Malone has agents across the country. Rates vary with each agent.

Brings up another question. In my situation with no authority of my own would I be able to find other loads? ops:

Basically right now I pretty much stay in the southeast and I get home every weekend.
Is that possible with Malone?? 8)

It is always best to run on your own money, but there is nothing wrong with factoring. It will cost some of your profit. Some of the world's largest corporations factor some of their receivables. I am not suggesting that you use a factor, but it is a way to finance your company without debt. There are also brokers who will pay in a short time with an additional cash discount. Some are as low as 1 1/2-2%. With fuel prices being so high, you could spend as much as $2,000/week or more for fuel if you are running hard.

They prefer you use their agents for loads, but you can go outside. The key is in getting a number for the bills. I don't remember what they call the number. You get the number from your dispatcher. Unless the number is on your bills you won't get paid. Whomever you get the load from must have their credit approved.
