Hey Rev,

What happens when something goes wrong with your (LS owned) trailer? What's the repair procedure?

Call Trailer Utilization and let them know that I am having a problem. They will find a repair shop in the area and set it all up. I've had to call them once (when I first got a trailer - flat tire) and they solved the problem quickly.

Landstar keeps their trailers in decent shape for the most part. If there is a problem, they want it fixed as much as I do.

UPDATE:

I am so ashamed of myself. I arrived at Unilever only to find that I went over my projected miles by 20. There goes all my profit.

Hey rev,
What are you getting for a fuel surcharge right now? Is it a set rate that all the brokers have to give?

 This week at Crete I'm getting .48cpm

It varies from agent to agent. On the short run I did from WI to Chicago, the FSC was $0.35 per mile ($59.85 on 171 dispatched miles). On the trip I just completed, the FSC was $0.81 per mile ($560 on 688 dispatched miles). I don't worry so much about what the FSC per mile is. All I care about is the total revenue for the trip, and whether or not it meets what I am willing to haul it for. As far as I am concerned, revenue is revenue. What they want to call it matters little to my bottom line.

How is your truck spec'd Rev?

Edit to add: Also what kind of volumes of freight are you seeing on the LS board since you started? Is it starting to increase or is it about the same.

Thanks. So they cover all maintenance, repairs, depreciation & insurance. What do they charge you for use of the trailer.....I think they deduct ~2% from your settlement is that correct?

If you average $2/mile on 75,000 loaded miles that means you're renting the trailer for $3,000/yr?

They have definately increased over the past 2 weeks. I used to have the "follow me" system calling me on any load that paid $2.30 per mile gross, but was getting 70+ phone calls per day. I now have it set to $2.60 per mile, and am still receiving 20+ calls per day.

The trailer is covered under their percentage. I get a straight 65%. They have phased out that whole 67% of 98% crap. In the flatbed division, they charge $155 a week for use of a trailer, but you get 73% of the revenue.

This is the first time I've had my truck in the hills with a heavy load behind it, and it is pulling like a champ.

This is not the truck you had in the high revenue contest
then you never pulled hills
you never pulled a full load

Total projected miles: 730
Total days involved: 1 1/2
Total revenue: $1496

see your last post and get a new calculator

Yes it is.

The load paid $1440 gross, plus $560 FSC on 688 dispatched miles.

The last time I checked, $2000 / 688 = $2.91 per mile.

Now, here's where it gets tricky. Try to keep up.

$1440 X .65 = $936
$936 + $560 = $1496

Learn the meaning of the word "gross". Buh bye.
