The CB shop did mention that I better not reveal anything about the radio to anyone and to just answer that it's a Cobra 29 or something like it. It came with a notice that the FCC requires me to have a license.

Btw Steve, you should have just gotten yourself a a Uniden PC 78LTW, even when done up right they cost about half of an export and talk much better and are more durable. And also your radio is only as good as the antenna and coax you are using, I hope you spent some dough on that stuff too.

It has to get off the antenna to go anyplace. On a T Hunt we took a big tuner and we were the hidden T, We loaded up the airport chain link fence and the boys had a hell of a time finding us. Signals were raideating all over the place Try loading up your trailer if your not carrying Petro. Use a big Rollor Tuner. Arkie

CB radio is my hobby, I have more radio's and crap than I could ever use. The only reason some shops tell people to lie about what they have is because if they do enough business the FCC MIGHT slap them on the wrist for selling export radios.
I've been in this game for about 5 years and have never heard anyone tell me that the FCC came to their house. The only way to file a complaint is on line, and even then there has to be NUMEROUS complaints for them to send a field agent out to inspect your station. The biggest thing to remember is "clean in, clean out". And Steve be sure to check your SWR every now and then, tuned and peaked exports don't like a high SWR and will burn up your final/s in a hurry.

I use to have a paper route when I was a kid and I use to talk to this old lady every Saturday when I collected my money. She was moving to Florida and asked if there was anything I would like to have in her basement. Her late husband was into Ham and also sold it. I took a brand new radio, chrome lollipop mike and a 20' Rango antenna.
I started talking and it only lasted about 2 months and the FCC showed up in front of my house. I guess the antenna was a good give away once they had the general direction. For my punishment I was given to the man on the next street who would be my sponser in getting my Ham license. I think he's the one who turned the FCC in on me. It took about 2 months for me to learn Morse code good enough to please him. Come to find out, I only needed to learn it 1/2 the speed he required. So I got my license and lost interest pretty quick. I kept the mike until I was like 30 years old and a radio station bought it for $400 to put on display in their waiting room. It was a real old one that was brand new when I got it. Not sure if my license is still good. I don't remember anything about that stuff now. Can't even remember SOS.
