How bad were they on fuel mileage? I would think that giant bucket would either work like an air foil, or like a brick wall. Could you feel them back there?

I was averaging about 8mpg until this load. My mileage from Laredo to Fredericksburg went down to 6.8mpg. Other than the weight (36k) I did not really feel them. I expected to feel a lot of drag/resistance and suprisingly felt nothing.....

Now there is a great "Sticky Wicket" !!:thumbsup:

With an ISO Tub, if it is empty, but not cleaned, and is being hauled on a flatbed, the driver of the truck doesn't need a tank endorsement, because the empty ISO is simply cargo. However, if the ISO has not been cleaned, then the driver must have a haz-mat endorsement, PLUS he or she must also have a "Last Contained" BOL for the ISO.

The same thing applies to DD with his tank. Had it not been properly purged and the placards removed, he would have needed the haz-mat endorsement, as well as the "Last Contained" BOL for the hazardous material the tank contained.:thumbsup:

While ISO tubs can legally be hauled on a flatbed when they are full of liquid, no responsible shipper is going to allow that to happen. The liability issues are beyond belief.

It really wouldn't matter if the ISO had a non-haz liquid or a haz-mat liquid. On the deck of a flatbed, such as DD's, the tank itself is at an extremely high center of gravity. I have seen flatbeds with tanks such as DD hauled, flip on corners, because the driver manuevered the truck like he was hauling bricks or lumber, instead of a tank like that. Add fluid to the equation...OH Boy!! :eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2:

I watched a guy with two empty ISO's that had placards on them, get ticketed at the MD scales up on I-68. The driver didn't have "Last Contained" paperwork, MSDS or a haz-mat endorsement. :lol2::lol2::lol2: On top of all that, he was close to getting tossed in the "Klink" because he was running his mouth, when I walked quietly out the door with my over-weight ticket.:rofl::rofl: Them MD scalemasters seem to have a short forgiveness span.

Hat's off to DD for hauling his first two OD's error free!!:bow::bow::bow:

PS...I'm not a big fan of ISO's when they are on a regular ISO chassis....loaded or empty.

you ain't kidding there.....even at slow speeds, that tank, with its high center of gravity had my entire trailer rocking from side to side. Not to mention it had that damn seat stuck to my rear-end.....
