No, I mean it started out good talking about this and that. I helped someone with there laptop problem and then a few come in and start bringing it down real quick.

I'm not 100% today but feel MUCH better. My truck is posted so we'll see. Snow is coming but I don't think the part of Iowa where I am. I understand it's suppose to head East so I may be going with it.

Rosty
rank, I thought you were in Canada.
Yep, but were only about 100 miles from NY border and they got hit HARD. Now it's the blowing snow that's causing the problem. We'll probably sit this week out too.

Maybe this will drive the rates in the I81 corridor up a little.

Well, I left the Iowa80 truckstop this morning around 9am and figured where I would be 200 miles from there and posted my truck. I still wasn't feeling that great but figured I could do the 200 instead of sitting another day. I posted my truck and went to fuel up and got a call before I even got to the fuel island. It's a load of rough cut hardwood going close to my home town. Rank, you would be proud. They said $1,300 and I said $1,400. She put me on hold and I'm sure she was just doing her nails. She came back on and said OK. I should have said more I guess. Oh well, still a good rate for 868 miles.

I'm in Indiana at a T/A eating my first real meal. I tried to eat toast this morning and could only do 1 slice. I just ate a Subway steak and cheese. I know, I know, wrong thing to be eating after what I went through. My stomach is working overtime right now making all sorts of GOOD noises.

I was also told by the broker that it's my responsibility to make sure I'm legal. I have a feeling this is a common issue as it must be hard to figure how much hard wood can weigh. I'm a wood worker myself and 2 oak boards can weigh totally different!

I could load up until 2pm today but I would have made it there at 1:45 so I decided to stop and pick up tomorrow at 6am.

Ok, here's a new one at least for me. I don't take a shower every day and my hair is so fine (thin) that it's all over the place in the morning. If I wet it, it just lays flat on my head all day and I look like Fonzie with my hair greased down. So, I fill Mr. Coffee half way and make hot water then put cold in after it's done. Paper cup, shampoo, trashcan and towel and bingo.

Ok, it's been 1/2 an hour. The sub went in, the sub came out. Not a good idea I guess. Time to lay down and watch Ellen.

Hey steve...glad to see you are OK. No more subs for a few days!! Chicken noodle soup and crackers....

We have had to do the bath thing in the truck before....one time it was in the summer and we were in MA and at a customers location in some small town. We went to the store bought a few gallons of water and put them on the flatbed in the sun. By evening we had hot water for baths.

Your creative side takes over as despiration rises.

Good for you haggling with those brokers....dont be afraid to tell em how it is!! Stand your ground and you will do Fine!!

Tootie

Good deal. $1.60 sounds alot better than $1.50....and that extra hun is pure profit LOL.

Sounds like you'll have to pay to scale it...then go back on your nickel and have them take off if you're heavy. Try to play it safe and try to keep it light the first time.

I'm not sure if the DOT will accept a "Shippers Load and Count" on the BOL for weight.....does anybody know this?

Remember when I asked what your trailer spread was? US Bridge Law says if you have a 10' spread you can scale 40,000 on the rear axles (20,000 each). With a spread axle trailer, if you're heavy on the drives you might be able to shift some weight to the rear to get legal.

Might want to read up on the Bridge Law before you load.....have fun.

Hey Steve, when are you going to purchase the on-board weight system??,it sure takes the guess work out of the overweight issue.
Pays for itself in convenience alone.

They will accept anything it says, BUT they will go by THEIR scale, if its over on THEIR scale, they start writin'

I have air-gauges, not really accurate but will ball-park it for me.

The driver is responsible for making sure the load is legal. The driver will get the ticket.
