WOW - what a difference a day makes. Yesterday, I was scheduled to load a 22,000 lb shipment up in Orange Park, FL on the 21st. Well, I called in today, and they told me that the 22,000 lbs had become 11,000 lbs.

At the same time, they asked me if I could do them a favor and power a trailer for an APU that had somehow been missed - a 16,000 lb shipment going from Odessa, FL to Taylors, SC. I had nothing better to do, so I said "Sure", and headed back to our Tampa warehouse to drop my trailer (with all its unfolded pads) and pick up one of Tampa's empties. Well, I got about 5 minutes away, and they called me back to tell me they didn't need me to pick it up after all.

Well, since I was heading to our Tampa warehouse anyway, I decided to drop in, and see what this shipment was all about. I ran the numbers on it, and decided right then and there to do some major juggling. Now I am no longer picking up the 22,000 (ahem, 11,000) lb. shipment, and am instead loading this one directly on my trailer tomorrow (the 17th). Then it is up to South Carolina to deliver it on Monday (the 19th). Then I deadhead over to Brentwood, TN to load 18,000 lbs direct on Wed (the 21st), and bringing that one to Charlotte, NC, to deliver on the dock on Saturday (the 24th).

From there, I head to Morrisville, NC to load yet another 18,000 lbs on Monday the 26th, and take that to Glen Mills, PA to deliver on Thursday the 29th.

All of that running will pay ME $12,614.60, and will cover 1767 miles. That comes out to $970.35 per day, or $7.14 per mile.

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. I ain't out of this contest yet!

When you arrive at the customers house, are they required to do any packing or do you do it all? You have to take the clocks down from the wall and put them in a box?

When you deliver, do you just drop the boxes in the new house and go.. or unpack everything?

It depends on the account. Most of our shipments we do the packing on. About a third have unpacking. It all depends upon what the customer (or corporate client) wants. Packing and unpacking isn't cheap. A full pack job can run $3000 - $5000. A full unpack will run about half of that.

But we are quick - a crew of 4 people can pack an entire house (around 2500 sq ft) in about 5-6 hours.

Looks like its at an end, guys 8)

I think the Rev won, but its time to tally up the numbers. Teal is changing carriers again, so we'll see how that goes for him.

As for myself, I returned the truck and am back at school trying to boost the gpa for grad school. Its been a fun time, but I'm at a crossroads in my life, but will probably be bedbugging in '07

I'm not "changing careers". I'm simply going back and working locally/regionally so that I can go back to school ( as I posted previously ) next semester for Real Estate. I've been putting it off and putting it off, and if I didn't actually quit Planes when I did, I would have probably never left lol, I had it toooo good there. I stopped participating, or worrying about knocking down big numbers a while back, I have no final numbers, other than the fact that I have about $12k coming to me from my last run from NYC to Texas.

He said you were "changing CARRIERS", not "changing CAREERS".

I have a preliminary number, but I'm not posting it until I know for a fact that it will come in at that amount.

I still think there is an issue with all of us using different sets of numbers - I'm using the actual settlement numbers, but I think Teal is using the carrier's numbers - from what I remember of a discussion I had with him, he had said he did around $44K for June, but that isn't what he actually got paid - it was what the gross from the trip was (before they took out their percentage).

I will say, though - I almost earned as much over this summer as I did for all of last year (July - December).

I think this is going to be my last summer in the truck, though, as I am contemplating a change for next year - buying more trucks, and putting drivers in all of them, running HHG.
