Bedbugger revenue contest

Just finished shuttling a 3300 lb load to my customer in Tampa (the one I loaded out of Toronto). 2nd floor, winding staircase up to the apartment, and a hurricane barreling down on us. Lots of fun. I love double handling stuff. :?

I'm in the hub of HHG, here in Seattle. I'm loading 2 of 6 shipments today...So far, I've GROSSED a hair over $30k since I loaded my first shipment on this trailer the 30th of May.

I just read through this thread and have to say I'm pretty damn ticked off at all the horsecrap being flung around. I don't see anything wrong with the competition thread at all and more power to the 3 that are involved, since they appear to be having a good time working, posting about it, and competing. By the way, my money is on Horsepower to win.
![]() But as far as the crap slinging goes, it stops now, if it hasn't already. And if it gets out of hand again, we will close the thread, clean the thread, ban those posting with multiple names (we track log-in names back to IPs and there is a strict rule against having multiple screen names, REGARDLESS of who you are ), and re-open it cleaned and pressed and let these three gentlemen continue on with what was a really good idea and a fun thread to follow. It's that simple. I typically don't drop the hammer like this, but if you don't like it, tough. If you're posting on this board, you're familiar with the rules of an adult posting community and expected to abide by them. If you want to act like children, do it elsewhere. I've little time to play games. If, however, there is no more crap slinging, then it's all water under the bridge, but the multiple personality thing still stands.

Thank you Twilight Flyler.
Well, today was one of the most interesting moves I've done in awhile. 7k lb military shipment, that a Mayflower Agent booked as a self-haul and then dropped the ball this morning when they had nobody to grab it. My agency called me at around 11 this morning, and told me about it...I said "no problem", called the OA on it, told them I was coming to get the shipment and I needed 2 guys to help me out...I wanted to get outta there quickly. Normally, 1 guy would be the max. Well, I take my shower, call the agent said I was on my way, and he says he can't find anyone willing to drive to the origin...I told him I would come pick them up if that was the case, and I drove the 30 miles to the OA, well I get to the agent and he tells me that my guys are at residence waiting for me...no biggie. I call my shipper and told her I was enroute. While all of this is going, the dispatcher at the Mayflower agent is starting a bunch of crap...(telling United that he hasn't heard from me, I'm not calling, they don't knwo where I am etc..I got a call from a lady and got an earful until I explained what was going on...their going to talk to the dispatcher on a higher level). I get to origin and had my guys start running boxes out and loading square while i inventory..I got done inventorying..and they had my deck completely loaded...with mayb 2,500 lbs... So, I told them to get the hell out of my trailer, and they said they have never loaded anything before  so I unloaded my whole deck and started reloading everything. The shippers were VERY happy with my services, and pleased everything went as easy/quickly as it did. I had them completely loaded and out of the house in about 3 1/2 hours. The shipment went 7,100 lbs. and I only used 1,100 cubes for it.

I am impressed- it doesn't make the move any easier when you have crappy labor working for you as well, and thats the honest truth.
BTW- for non-bedbuggers--- 2,500lbs on the deck (the area abover the tractor tandems) is a VERY careless and poor pack job. The deck is good for 4-6000lbs, easily when loaded 1/2 way decently. I was on the other end of the phone so Teal could have emotional support. 8) I'm still on my 22K pack job, and should be loading shortly after luncgtime. This job requires 3 days of my time, 1 and 1/2 to pack, and another 1 and 1/2 to load. Sometimes it seems you can nver leave a shippers house, but when you have shippers as cool as these, its hard to leave. Free wifi, free lunches, and I smell a tip already ![]() Another thing- I had to stop at New Haven (moving equipment co) and buy 600 bucks worth of equipment today- 2 2 wheel dollies- $375, and 13 locks with matched keys fr another $200. Overhead is high, but I consider it an investment. And just in case the Rev and Teal are curious, yes, I bought magliners and almost bought the wrist straps to carry stuff upstairs, but opted not to. The dollie with the brakes on it caught my eye, but we'll see next trip 8)

But I have an image to protect! Actually, they are B@D's or something from new haven. I like the ones with the brakes. When I helped my dad the other month on a load, the driveway was steeper than grapevine 8)
Seriously, I pushed 3 dishpacks on their side on bare ashphalt down the driveway it was that steep! Brakes are good(er) I still have 2 farm and fleet dollies, so I keep it real just for you, rev. My reefer dolly is no beauty, thats for sure!

Great thread, I look forward to reading your latest exploits each time I get on. Found one HHG company offering o/o's "53-60% of discounted linehaul". Any ideas how the "discounted" figure compares to what the company actually gets or what's discounted (your pay???)? Wish ya'll a safe, happy and PROFITABLE summer!

I've got 3 different dollies, all from Home Depot.
The first is a plastic 600 lb one, and it has served me well. I had one stolen, and the other shattered when some stupid helper tried putting 1500 lbs worth of weights on it, and then tried to take it down a flight of stairs. It cost me $49.99, but they now have them for $39.90. ![]() The second has a 1000 lb load rating, and is tough, tough, tough! Solid tires, and split handles. Cost me $49.99, and it is no longer on the Home Depot website. The third is my favorite. It is a combo hand truck/cart, and it has a load rating of 800 lbs as a hand truck, and 1000 lbs as a cart. It is really heavy, and my labor usually hates using it. It cost me $179.00.

You can't beat cheap dollies. I had actually bought 2 B&P Eliminator's a year or so ago...wide blade lip that you can fit under wide pieces and not worry about the legs falling off, and you can also fit it under a washing machine and have the peg's sit on the blade..pretty handy.
