Discounted linehaul means that the company discounts the price of the move (which is based on miles, origina, destination, and weight) under the 400N Tariff. All companies discount the move, regardless. The move I'm on has a 57% DISCOUNT OFF THE TARIFF PRICE, and I get 53-55% of the linehaul. 100% of the FSC to me, 80% of packing charges, and 100% origin and destination charges...both of which add up to a couple hundred bucks (sometimes). Origin/dest charges are based on the citites you load or unload in, and reflect the cost of doing business there. For example, Chicago has higher charges than lets say, Wyoming sometimes.

I have a question Bandit, and it might as well go here as anywhere. I suppose I could post it on the "things that make you go hmmmmmm" thread.

Do you consider yourself an owner-operator since you rent your truck?

Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Most bedbuggers don't refer to themselves as "Owner Operators". I know I don't. I am an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, since that title is more accurate to what I do.

The HHG industry is not unlike building a house. If you were going to build a house, you would hire a general contractor (the Van Line), who would then subcontract the work out (the Independent Contractors). The subcontractors would then subcontract out some of the work (the cash labor for loading and unloading).

So the fact that he rents his truck plays no part in the fact that he is still an Independent Contractor.

I understand you were making a funny, but I just thought I'd point this out.

Renting a truck is no different than making payments on a truck I have contracted to buy...both parties don't own the truck, thats the common difference.

Off to WI tonight to unload 24K (3 shipments) then come back and hook to this trailer I am finishing today and off to Oklahoma! Yeee haw!

Man, Rev. if I would have known that last week, I would have taken you with me and dropped you off.

I couldn't have asked for a better shipment today, I loaded 11k lbs., into 1,150 cubes...which gives me a total of 2,300 cubes, and 1,500 cubes available :-D Could I possibly get 30k lbs on? I've got 20k on right now...HRMMMMMMMMM.....

What part of WI Rev? I have 2 drops in Oshkosh and 1 in Ashland (ie: God's country!)

Then deadhead 500 miles back to my agent in Chicago and run like hell to Oklahoma. Should be a fun trip. Taking a helper for once, too!
