No you don't! You get paid by the MILE, and it is the SAME number of miles between shipper and consignee regardless of your speed. I KNOW what you are saying.... you think you'll get MORE trips per week in if you aren't slowed down by a few mph. But..... I just don't THINK so! Yours is the type of mentality that causes drivers to NOT take breaks to clear their heads, circulate their blood, and calm their nerves. You are an accident just waiting to happen!

Quote:
If I got paid by the hour I would drive 5 mph under the limit or what ever my company wants
.

And THIS mentality is EXACTLY why OTR companies pay by the MILE instead of the HOUR! There are more than enough "drivers" wasting time playing video games in truckstops when they should be out there driving!

So many drivers complain about shippers wasting their valuable time, yet THEY in turn waste their company's time! If EVERYONE drove as efficiently as they could, perhaps freight would move faster and companies would PAY better. I don't KNOW..... I'm just speculating.

All I can say is..... WAITING is part of the job, as is traffic and weather slowdowns. You TOOK the job to get X amount of cpm. Most of you "solos" are out there for weeks at a time. You will probably get the SAME number of loads/miles regardless of a few mph! If the pay isn't BETTER than you were making at the job you LEFT to go trucking..... go BACK! MOST of us got into trucking to AVOID having to "punch a clock." If you're ALL about the money for every MINUTE you are on the road / clock.... you are in it for the wrong reasons, and are probably a danger to the rest of us!

Now... just so's you'll know..... I care about my hometime, too! I WANT to get home as quickly as possible and REASONABLE. It pisses me off when my codriver drives 10 mph less than the speed limit where my truck can DO it! That can add as much as 3-4 hours on a coast to coast trip! So.... yeah.... I KINDA know what you are saying..... I guess I just don't like the way you are saying it!

That was honest, wasn't it? Hey, I'm a trucker! I LIKE to b!tch as much as the next guy! I guess I just don't agree with WHAT you are b!tching about, or the BASIS you are using to do it! Don't MIND me, really! You go ahead and whine all you want to! Just don't forget to flush the dang toilet..... and stay out of MY fast lane!

Based on .35 cents per mile and an 11 hour drive day

Pay at 62 miles per hour 238.70 x 5 days = 1193.50 per week

Pay at 72 miles per hour 277.20 x 5 days = $1386.00 per week

Pay at 62 miles per hour = $4774.00 per month

Pay at 72 miles per hour = $5544.00 per month

Difference in pay 62mph VS. 72 mph = $770.00 per month

SCREW 62,,, I WANT AN EXTRA $770.00 A MONTH OR $9240.00 PER YEAR

If you get paid by the hour makes no difference except its boring as hail stones !!!!

These goobers that think you don't lose money when the companies roll back the governors are incapable of 5th grade math.

If you are making the same money it is because you are driving more hours, plain and simple. Get a clue.

The irony of this statement is nothing short of hilarious.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you cannot maintain the maximum speed that your truck is set. If your truck has a maximum speed of 72 you CANNOT average 72 mph. It can't be done. Of course the same could be said of a truck that has a maximum speed of 62. In reality, you will more than likely average somewhere between 50-58 mph. You cannot maintain your maximum speed traveling up and down hills and mountains, nor can you keep up that speed in most of the eastern states, such as Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. About the only place you can keep your speed up is running the West, and that also isn't possible due to the mountains. One thing I have found over the years is that if I keep the door closed I can put on a lot of miles during the day. If you think running at 62 is difficult, you would never have made it when we were restricted to 55. Try going across the wide part of Texas at 55! In truth, it would be nice to have a little more speed in some areas of the country. However, it will have little if any effect on most drivers. Running at lower speeds can actually help you to run more consistently. There is no need to sweat the small stuff. Traveling a little slower is small when you look at the big picture.

That's an awfully bold statement for a self proclaimed "newbie" who's never driven a truck.
